| Submit Your Site For Review Need a fresh set of eyeballs to take a look at your site? Have a specific issue or question about some aspect of your layout, design or interface? This is the forum for you. When submitting your site, be sure to discuss what aspect you are looking for input on. Just posting a link with the word 'review' isn't appropriate. |

As many of you are aware one thing in Site Review which is hard to keep tabs on with is how quickly posts gets pushed to page two... sometimes without getting even one review.
As a lot of members are pretty busy, few have time to check out page 2,3, 4 etc and so once these requests pass onto page two they often remain unanswered. Oddly enough I didn't notice till recently (call me blind - I won't argue!) the "Read Topics With No Replies" link at the top right of page one of the the Site Review forum, but now I have I'd like to encourage other members to be "community minded" and check that link now and again to specifically look for the sites that have "missed out". If we all pitch in maybe less sites will get overlooked in future. And as always if you have any questions or concerns about the forum feel free to PM one of the mods and we will eb gald to help out as best we can. Tania

I noticed that the newest posts are at the bottom. Since they are more then likely to visit the forums sooner then the older posts, I thought that I would work from the bottom up seeing all the niceities I could find on the internet.
Some good, some bad, some downright ugly. I was wondering if we could "delete posts older then 30-60 days with no replies" from the listing of posts with no replies page. Or better yet somehow delete posts from the forum older then 30-60 days with no replies?

I've sent a message to the admin about the option of showing only the newer posts and arranging the lists with th most recent at the top...
I personally don't like the idea of automatically deleting old posts with no replies. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't like to delete posts without at least sending the member a courtesy note. That said I will try find time to go through the list over the weekend and delete any that have dud links etc.

It's a shame when you ask people to check your site and ask for feedback even make it simple by adding a poll and still get no responces. If anyone reads this please take my poll. Please review my site " I think it says" Maureen C. I have looked at others even and asked them to at lest take my poll and nothing. Well Thank you to you if you read this.

Community spirit, What a joke, I have no idea why people come on this site apart from self gratification. If you are online and in a forum have an opinion. As me I may be honest but at least I speak, either people start playing or I give up as I could be elsewhere!

I always comeback and reply to what reviewers have said about my site, or logo..or really any post i have made..I am on this site just about 5-9 hours a day...I do find it is slow sometimes and that I have to bump my post 2,3,or even 4 or 5 times to get someone to review it..but i find once I do get a reply and then I reply them more people do too..
So the key is to simply stay active with your post...and you will get something from it.. thanks,

I think lots of folks who do reply fail to enable email notification of a reply. Then, with all the different topics etc to chose from when logging in they simply fail to arrive back at that topic.
Additionally, many times one poster will simply cover the ground in such a way that a second post would just be redundant. Except for the now devalued value of another link there is a pointless aspect to making a post.

It would be helpful to me if an automatic link to my site's listing were inserted into any review I made which would make it easier for the person receiving MY review to simply click and reciprocate immediately instead of having to search for my listing.
I have a hard enough time locating where my listing is as it is without expecting a total stranger to go looking for it. |

So many sites to review...so little time.
I have reviewed some and will do so ocassionally. I always look for the ones with no replies. I'm off... |
|

I'll try to do my part of the reviews as well, an interesting thought came to my mind however - one that has most likely been thought of a million times before.
Categorizing the sites, I mean I'll gladly look over standard sites, preferrably of course about web tech (accessibility, css etc), real estate or travel agents and such but will skip areas I'm totally unfamiliar with (e-commerce sites, especially magazines, discounts, coupons and directories etc). Some sort of categorization would also reduce the amount of reviews (for me and possibly like minded people) and help us focus to the most interesting or familiar types of pages. Currently, with this topic being so popular, visiting every couple days I'd need to scroll through 3-4 pages of sites to review and try to choose those that I would put an effort into. Just an idea, possibly a bad one too. |

masterpeace, I agree! Even before this topic was created and ever since I joined this wonderful forum - and others I have clicked this link specifically to answer unnoticed posts. When logging on, today, I immediately checked the post I made here, and to my surprise, there were no replies. As a result of this, I double posted, as calypso_webmaster mentioned, to increase interest in what, to me, was an important topic.
snowflakegirl, the solution to your problem regarding finding your own posts is simple. Click the link named View your posts, which takes you to a complete chronological list of your posts. It is located in the top right hand corner on the forum index. Edit: Also, wouldn't it be a good idea to increase the number of topics shown per page. Obviously, this would slightly impair loading times, but it would ensure more topics would still appear on the first page of a specific forum. I was almost sure that you could change this on a user basis, too, using your profile. However, having looked it seems this option is not there. Have you modified the profile.php file located in the root of the phpbb2 folder - or am I imagining things? |

Does anyone read this - i clicked on the link out of interest & saw sooooo many unreplied submissions. Some were 8 months old !! Do the site moderators have a point where they mark submission as out of date if not replied to within a while & why wouldnt the owner check their submission ??? mmmmmm - ok i need to get out more on a sat night rather than get stuck posting replies on forums eh !!

Hi divingwelshbird,
One of the problems is that the page lits from oldest to newest and not vice versa, but I have read your post and others on th same point and I started going through the list today and doing some "spring cleaning". I don't like removing peoples posts without warning so I am restricting the clean up to sites with dead links, sites which were reviewed later (and received replies) and posts where the member has been inactive for 3 months... At least that should b a start! Tania

Maybe others have noticed the same thing - plenty of page views but either none or just a few replies with comments for a lot of posters in this forum. I would think if one takes the time to view a page then why not leave at least a line or 2 - good or bad.
Just my 3 cents (adjusted for inflation).

dartman,
sometimes the sites are just sooooo bad, that I (for one) feel awful about telling the poster that... I usually try to look for something positive to say about a site, but sometimes, it just isn't possible. and sometimes, I know so little about the topic, )and the topic isn't listed in the request for review)that I can't possibly give any kind of review.... |
|
|||
|
I have to agree Mary Ann, there are some really bad sites that ask for reviews. But, good or bad is an opinion. I would like to think that any reviewing in a forum should focus on layout, style and the appearance of credibility rather then a subjective content review.

You can't always infer that a lot of views mean a lot of unique visitors. I know that when I post a site to be reviewed, I read and reread the responses multiple times - not always from the same computer.
For reviews I usually start by checking page three and working my way to page one, looking for requests that haven't received much response. You don't have to know a subject to know if the navigation works, if the font is readable, if the site is user friendly. Well, thats where I start anyway. When looking for reviews I have found the varying backgrounds of the reviewers help to create a total picture which is better than a single review from a single so called expert. Well I just got here a few minutes ago . This is my 2nd posting. I will try hard to reveiw as many as I can ,but I am far from being an expert. I will give my opinion. I will try to give the best possible information. But I do not know a thing about the ALT jargon or anything like that. My opinion will be in simple terms until I know what the other terms are. Is that OK? Or would people prefer the computer jargon stuff?
Thank you for your time Sheila www.caronworldwideretail.itcstore.com |

Info 202 suggested that we should acknowledge all commments and so we should - if only out of politeness !
However I cannot find a way to search for postings that may have been replied to. Am I missing something ? John

There now appears to be two types of search, that will return results only with no replies. By using search.php, and as previously mentioned, a new method, which I believe to be exclusive to WebProWorld, noreplies.php. I hope to have been of help in ending this matter once and for all. :) |

I always try to review sites when I logo on every day or so. I figure that if others have had the time to look at my site I can do the same. I even have tried to go back as far as page 10 to look at sites that ask for a review. Some of them have gone to the top of the list and have been getting some more reviews since I have done this. I figure the ones that have the time will and the ones that can with what little time they have will also. Eventiually it all comes out.

This is a great thread. It is like pulling teeth to get site reviews here. Therefore, I'll be happy to do quickie site reviews for anyone requesting one (as time allows). Good luck and good coding.
