I am in need of help and I know there are a lot of talented people reviewing theses postings. I have a small business traveling around to different rummage sales in order to help run, organize and coordinate flea markets, rummage sales, craft fairs, conventions, etc. I have had a website built and was wondering if you could give me some feed back. I am looking for all types of feed back. It is an interesting concept for a website.

check it out and let me know what you think.

Thank you

*******I will be happy to give you my feed back in return.**************************

Hi uRummage

I liked your site. I found it easy to navigate and found that the FAQ section answered most of my questions.

The thought the resources area whereby you could print your own sign was great but the only problem would be that you have this very lovely computer generated sign that you then have to write on as not very many people are able to fill it out on screen.

Perhaps a version in word or something similar that most people have would be a good idea. I mean computers and office are my business and I still haven't got Acrobat Pro.

Apart from that I was really impressed. Reviewing all these good sites on WPW it makes me a little sad that I live all the way down in New Zealand and never get to any of these events or try out the services ... aaahhh but then I have the wonderful scenery.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Default CSS

I like your site a lot! Suggestions... well since you have css in place, why not add the image and table specifications to it?

I know, it can be a pain and half my site still needs it but if you're starting from scratch it's easier than adding it all later.

Link rollover effects are great but I prefer style change to italic or background highlighting. The bigger bolder text tends to look like upc coding after a long day at the screen.

Is there a doctype declaration? Nice & fast loading with just enough movement here & there. I like the concept too.

Nice job!

the look and navigation of your site is good. however, you do not have a very good chance of getting indexed in the search engines with all that javascript. Your meta tags and actual spiderable html content don't start till more than halfway down in the coding. Search engine spiders will likely never get that far down, thus--no rankings in search engines.

I would suggest moving as much javascript as you can into a separate file and linking to it, which would bump your html back up towards the top.

The site is fast loading enough but I think you'd have to be a dedicated 'rummager'" to drill through all those links, it's pretty daunting first time around and it might be an idea to begin with a 'hand-holding' exercise to lead all those newbie "rummagers" around.

As lorikelley66 said, the JS is huge and there is likely to be a SE penalty, I haven't checked that aspect in detail yet.

My only other comment would be to perhaps liven it up and break the large amounts of text with images. Use your digital camera at all those sales you visit and dot the site with shots, it gives people a much clearer idea sometimes, for example how NOT to lay out items.

Hope this helps and good luck

Default Signup problem

I tried to signup on your site. Had a problem. Entered the state 'Virginia' and tried to select a city. Got kicked out to the pre-signup page listing the secure/unsecure message. Then, got back to the signup page, which then listed the cities for Virginia.

I like your site. You may want to make your initial table width 760px making your web sites width 760px wide. You will have more space for content as well as white space. Also, move your logo to the left and create some type of masthead banner for the top of the page that brings about the benefits of using your web site. Focus on the benefits rather than features and you will increase your sales. Do that by taking each of your features and turning them into a benefit.

Looks good. Professional design and easy to navigate. Take all the javascript out and call it from an external file. It will speed up the site and make it search engine friendly; easy to do. Great idea too...

The layout of this site isn't too bad. I don't really have anything to add that others haven't already stated, but I would recommend removing your JS from the pages and placing it in an external file for Search Engines to better index your pages. I also agree that you should convert your page to using CSS. I like that you use css for your text fonts, coloring, etc, but it will improve your upgradability and scalability of your site to convert your page layouts into templates. It can be a pain to convert your thinking to css versus tables for layout. I was a table master as well, but I recently jumped to css and wished I had done it sooner. Now I'm in the process of going back and converting all my sites to css. Ouch. Hope this helps.

Nice layout... I like the color scheme and design simplicity. All that scripting... couldn't you use flash? I think it would be a faster responding media (your rollovers are slightly slowed on my cable connection), and why does the page have to be longer than it's content?

Great clean look to this site and your ad on the front is very attractive!
