Default Texas AIDS Network logo

Your comments on other logos have been very insightful, so I would appreciate your thoughts on this one. I am about to spend some very precious (and scarce) non-profit dollars on printed materials, so now is the time to make any changes.

Uh ... I should note that the gray parts are actually transparent, but they are displayed against a white background on our website at http://www.texasaids.net. (Try not to review the site. It needs work.)

Thank you for your help.

This is only my opinion, but I know you can do better. This logo says nothing except that you are a Texas organization. And when printed, the black over the red will compete and it will be difficult to read -- especially when reduced on business cards. Most of the attention will be on the star and not the message.

My advice is to go back to the drawing board with a clean sheet of paper.

You're trying to hard to say "Texas"... The flag is not going to make it any more about Texas than saying the actual word "Texas". I have to ask what other Texas could anyone be refering to?.. :)

I feel that the emphasis should be on AIDS, not so much on Texas. The flag colors can be encorporated into a very simple design and still convey a sense of good ol' Texas and the US of A.

For example:

Agree that you can do better. A flag with text over the top of it could work but general a logo is a more unique sort of mark. Using the color from the flag for the type and playing with the type like Chris has done very nicely here is one very straight forward and legitimate way to go. The Emphasis on Aids rather than Texas is a great point.

If this is a logo that is going to be used extensively, you might consider finding a graphic designer that would be willing to do some pro-bono work for you.

Just my 2 cents.

Default Thanks

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have to <grin> at how well you have discerned the Texan's true love of that flag AND that star AND those colors. The cost of the color separations has, however, been a bit of a budget quandary--so the flag fetish has to go.

Yes, the emphasis must be on AIDS. Nonetheless, I am pleased that your suggestions did not include a red ribbon. I like the use of simple text with the flag colors (thanks for the sample). I will play around with that idea a bit more.

And, of course, if others have more ideas, we would welcome them.
