Default Logo for Travel Education Services

We're a travel education company and we've just had this logo created for us, which we really like. What do other people think of it? (It's in JPG format because the GIF version doesn't look as smooth no matter how much the designer tweaks it).

Any comments will be gratefully received!

Thank you,

Simon Ross

Default Flame Design

Hi Simon,
I am assuming your logo is not set in stone if you submitted it here.

comments:

Simplicity: 8/10 - Very Clean and easy to read
Credibility: 4/10 - I assume this is a beach?

Memorability: 2/10 - I don't feel the visual can help your audience remember your name or service.

Visual Impact: 5/10 - Did not catch my eye at first site, poor balance, standard gradients do not add value, shape is awkward - does not 'look' like a logo.

Emotional Impact: 5/10 - Soft/tranquille

Uniqueness: 2/10 - what sets your services apart from your competitors? How does this logo play on these competitive advantages?

My major concern here is people are not going to identify your logo as a 'logo'. A good logo has a crisp unified look, and we've become accustomed to looking for it. When i first saw your image I thought 'brochure' or 'ad'.
I hope this helps!

Grease

Grease makes a very important and valid point here.... it doesn't "look" like a logo....

It appears more as an advertising teaser.... something that would appear before or after a logo.... Try to imagine your logo being able to fit on a business card along with names, numbers, addresses and a marketing tagline....

By the time your logo was printed on any sort of paper medium, the actual text elements would be very small... or, if as a header in a website.... taking up far too much space to say very little.

Instead of trying to place the text over the colors, maybe try creating an icon element that can contain the colors (one that means something.... for that seems to be the direction...) and free the text up to exist on a single line or stacked format without having to fight to exist with the colors....

Unify and simplify.... apply the KISS principle...

Just MHO.... :)

Cheers,

Chris
