Go and look at this again - here is why this isn't just text: 1. Colo(u)r use 2. Graduations of colo(u)r in the lettering 3. Font type (unique to Google) 4. Shadowing on logo Those are just some of the things that allow them to use the TM logo which denotes a registered trade mark. The Google word is a separate TM the way they do their logo is a separate TM. eBay is no different. Logo's are only important if you want people to recognise your business - if you don't then they are irrelevant. Last point Please, please please please stop creating a new thread on each response to people - it makes it really tough to follow.

A text-only logo is usually only the preserve of large multi-national corporations who are already well-established in their industries. Nike is just one example of a company that doesn't need to use its symbol to differentiate them from their competitors - they've already achieved supreme brand awareness through countless years of marketing. They are at the stage where they can use either the name 'Nike' or 'the Swoosh' symbol on their own without fear of brand confusion. Not so for the startup or SME who should almost always employ a graphic device that their audience will remember - and, more importantly, one which will set them apart from their competitors. Google? They set out with just text. However, because of their positioning (and, at the time, their unique product) their marketing did the hard work for them. |
