The new Logo design here:

is one of the better entries we have so far received for our redesign our logo competition.

What do you think?
Its already been likened to the logo of a large drinks company...

Definetly, looks like the logo of Pepsi. I would reccommend you try the logo on a dark background before giving any decision.

Yes, that seems to be the general concensus.

I have made a note to try is on a black back ground.

I would definitely change the shape. It not only looks like the Pepsi logo, but also the yin/yang symbol. Maybe you can make the curves less curvy.?
