Our logo is over 25 years old - need help
We have used our logo for over 25 years. I desperately want to redesign it and bring it up to date. I am meeting great resistance from my partner. I need your comments to help me decide what to do. View logo at our website www.rollingthunderriverco.com
"Logo" is round and located in the top left hand corner. Don't want you to miss it. Thanks.

Flame Design
Hi Bobby,
Thanks for your post. I see you have a problem on your hands. People become very attached to their logos (a personal issue) and lose site of building a brand (a business issue). As a logo designer, I encounter the same resistance quite often. Although the circular illustration on your website is attractive, it certainly does not have the simplicity, memorability or impact of a powerful logo. It is what it is - a pretty illustration. There is no reason the illustration can't be used in promotional materials as part of your company's identity, but at some point in time you are going to need a real logo that integrates your name and a visual into a tight, unique composition that says exactly who you are, and who you are targeting.
Best of luck,
Grease

Grease, you are right. The "pretty illustration" could still be used somewhere on our marketing materials. It just isn't a logo although they call it one. I am going to collect all the comments I get and try to convince my partner to go with a new logo. Thanks for your input.

Logo
Firstly to have a successful logo one needs to bear in mind it has to be the name that sells. Images should compliment the name. Without a name the logo is just a graphic and hangs without a place to call home. One look and the client should want to know more. If it does not do that it has lost its impact. Sometimes a simple design works best.

I agree... I'm sure in its time that logo served its purpose wonderfuly.
But... alittle change never hurt anyone... something simple should do the trick... perhaps just the mountians in the background keep the river but loose the off colors....Just a suggestion.
good luck :-)

Thanks for your comments. I wonder what images come to your mind when you think "Rolling Thunder"? I confess I'm at a loss.

May I help?
You need to define what your logo is suppose to say visually. Logos communicate nonverbally. As such, they must be properly planned before they are designed.
A verbal description emerges after the planning. Then, and only then, should a logo be designed. This gives the logo designers direction. You will then get a logo saying what the logo is suppose to say.....
And, you will always want your logo to communicate your credibility attributes. Like people, credible logos influence.

New Logo but a bit late?
You logo works but why have a calm river in front of the mountains. You have an excellent picture just below that could be implemented into the design so that people get the rght impression.
Your logo says to me fishing in the mountain country, nice and peaceful etc.
Keep the mountains if they apply and and the excitement of the rafting.
The colous are a bit old so adapt them to suit the image you wish to achieve.
Basically, your log works for me and just needs updating without too many changes. A case of customising as opposed to a radical change which should keep both you and your partner happy.
If I get time I might be able to put something together??

I think you need a brand new logo. This thing you have is not a logo - just an illustration. It will be hard to make a good logo from this illustration. Make a new one. I may help. Visit my site - you may find exactly what you're lookoing for.
