Hi There,
I think the concept is nice. Your 'innovative' ideas of using the pencils and apples are quite cool and in-keeping with the teaching theme. It communicates well with the audience, saying what you're about. It's also easy to decipher from a distance, as the letter spacings and sizes seem good.
To improve, I would increase the pixel sharpness and quality. It seems a little 'grainy'. That could be due to the limitations of the graphics program you used to make it. If u can get your hands on Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw, they would be ideal for maintaining the sharpness at various sizes. Also add a little shadow (and 3d) to the apples and pencils. it'll bring it to life. A bit like the apple you use for the icon for the 'parents pages' link. It uses a little shadow and highlighting to create the 3d effect.
In all, I think you've got the right idea. You've done the hard bit, in getting a suitable concept that works well. Small improvements to the quality will make a big difference I think.
I hope that helps.
Jomo.
