Default Pet Site Logos

first one:

http://www.pupforum.com

the logo itself is just the text. the dog isn't part of the logo, just part of the website design

second one:

http://www.mykittypics.com

this logo consists of the cat cartoon as well as the text

id like to eventually develop more skills with the art software apps that are out there so that i can do more exciting stuff but for now i like keeping things simple & clean

all opinions are welcome

chris

Both logos are good. This is because of the font you used in both designs. You see the purpose of a logo is to help customers remember your business or website every time they see it. It seperates your company from all the similar companies out there and creates trust with customer. Because you used fonts that are not common used or look like ones commonly used, you effectively created a logo. You can change your design later but at the risk of people not immediately recognizing your company if they see the design down the road. Also your logos fit well with the rest of the site. Good Luck!

Thanks Dustin

another benefit of these logos is that since they are really just a well-chosen font, I can make all kinds of different versions and styles, etc for whatever I may need them for...

So long as the font (and prob the colors too) stay the same, I can do different kinds of background shapes and accompanying (is accompanying a word?) images, icons, etc

but really, the main reason my logos tend to be just unique fonts instead of image-based logos (like you do dustin) is that my skills with illustrator, free-hand, and photoshop are kind of limited... i need to work on that so that i can start making stuff like you do. but i really like my sites (myabe im a bit biased!) and think i make the most of my limited skills

Sounds like your on the right track. Also just a little side note... The keyword "dog" is one of the most searched on the internet. Anyway, a few of the sites on google that are within the first 10 are quite flaky. For instance http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/ and http://www.dog-play.com/. I would try to optimize my site to grab those postions away from these guys. I think your site would be more interesting to people searching for such information. Good Luck!

regarding the dog keyword, i havent tried to optimize for that as its prob too general a keyword

ive instead been focusing on keyword terms such as:

adopt a dog, dog adoption
dog pictures, dog picture, dog pics
dog training, dog trainer,
dog websites

and yeah, i think my site is cooler and more fun than most of the sites that have top 10 positions for all of these keyword terms!

if you have any advice to offer at all, its appreciated. you can teach me a thing or two in this post:

Lose the drop downs. Makes me at least not want to go back to the site. Other than that the logos look good.

I get a pop up or drop down ad from the site. The first one you listed. pupforum.com
