Default OK,

Well I'm not sure which logo i'm supposed to review, but i'll guess in the big logo in the middle of your page,

I really like your logo, it's origanal, good to look at and really effective, I really like the way the gutair goes through the red ring, and is not just placed on top of it.

One thing I would change, I would make the gutair bigger compared to the red ring, to emphisis the gutair and not the ring.

Good Luck

Thanks for your thoughts. It is indeed the logo in the middle - it's used in a smaller version on the other pages of the site. In fact the owner has now had it added to his business cards!

Many thanks for your comments.

Default Flame Design

The guitar is a cool visual, but defintely not effective as a logo. The logo should be simple, and instantly recognizable. Usually a vector graphic with an integrated typeface and a limited color palette works best.

Take Care,

Grease

Hi,
I also like the guitar in the logo, but I don't like the repeat of it. It makes it difficult for me to focus on. Maybe just one guitar would suffice. Also, I think that the red ring should be smaller or possibly be a red oval encircling the guitar.
Hope this helps!

I tend to disagree, but then my site is not about media design?! And therefor grease is proberbly right, and the more I think about... well I don't know,

Good Luck

Good day folks, many thanks for your comments and suggestions. All read and understood. The brief was that the R&P Guitars wanted the guitar (it's the shop and Bad Reputation rock band T-Shirt logo - lot of history there methinks!) as their web site logo, but didn't want it to look flat on the page. So, I did the best(??!!) I could. The comments made though, help me to consider the design for other logos now.
Many thanks for your comments
Best wishes

Default logo review

Going against what Grease said, I would use the guitar, as that is exactly what the site is all about. I would definately have it standing out on its own though.
Something distinctive that ways exactly what the site is all about usually works.
Simple is usually nice.
All the best with this one.

Default Remember what a logo is

Hi Mike,

I'm a musician, too, so I had to look at your site. I love what your site's about and the logo is a good start but let's clean it up. My thoughts:

1. What's the signifigance of the hula hoop/ring? Does it help site visitors to understand or does it confuse them?

2. The echoing shadows of the guitar cause confusion. Take them out and try just one, good, clean shadow.

3. Your name written on the guitar is a great idea, but you need it written clearly above the guitar, too. It gets muddied in with all the autographs.

Think of a cool font and try curving your name over the guitar or stacking up the words to the left of the guitar. Play with those words... kind of like playing with your guitar...

I want to see what you come up with...

Default Flame Design

To clear up any confusion,
I did not suggest that a guitar should not be used. I stated that the current guitar on the is not effective and should be simplified so that it is recognizable.

I have to agree with Grease, it is more a title image than a logo. If you are after a logo then take Grease's advice. If you are just after a title image to your website, then I have the following advice...

1. The cascading guitars makes the image look blurry, and is the first noticeable item on the page.
2. If you want the eclipse around the guitar I would suggest trying again with something else, because the curent one doesnt really blend in with the image.

As you have made this the focus of your page, then it really does have to carry the impact you want it to carry. You dont want the first impression to be that it kind of looks a little out of whack. For a title image it has possibilities, but needs to be worked on a little more to tie the whole image together.

Good luck !

Default Many thanks folks

Firstly, many thanks to you all for looking in on R&P to vet the 'logo'. I appreciate the time you all take to do this and your comments are all received with thanks.
Now to respond to one or two of the points raised:
SpideRee:Glad to hear you're in the musical world. My band insist that I'm not - I'm the drummer!! Nuf o' that!
OK, I'm replying here to all of you, as you've all raised similar points - so I'm not ignoring anyone!

The hoop is really to add a bit of depth and colour. I guess that it was also put in a slightly different take, as a guitar on it's own has been used before and the hoop was thought to add something a little different that also shows up on the band shirts and equipment etc.
The shadows - I see exactly what you mean as also mentioned before. I shall be having a go at a different version and putting it to the R&P guys.
My name on the guitar was actually written on the guitar when the shop was opened - perhaps I shouldn't let that out! I must admit I never thought anyone would spot my name on it!!

Many thanks again
Mike

Default I will have to agree with Grease

If it is a logo it should be simplified, it is a very nice design but I personally think of a logo as a simple but easily recognizable design, your design could be modified somewhat to work though. Again I must say that I do like the picture.

If you like want the hoop why not use it for the "O" in "Rock" or "Pop" or both? (Preferably "pop".) I would play with the name, as the type in the box above the guitar doesn't really work for a logo--incorporate it into your graphic.
