Please review my logo as I've had mixed comments about it in the past few days.

It's clever idea that very nearly works. You need to use the shape of an 'o' in the same font with the same kerning (spacing) that the 'o' would have. At present the 'o' is recognizable as a monkey, but not as an 'o'.

Your going to change the monkey. Ahhh I like the logo. I picked up right away as to what you were trying to do/say.

77K for that logo? Ouch. I feel sorry for anyone at your site with a modem. It is pretty cool, though.
Brian.

No i'm not going to change the logo! The overall opinion is that it's a good logo! Thanks everyone for your comments. 77k for the logo! It's that good then? lol!
I do need to change the links on the nav bar however. Brian - I didn't think it was that bad on a modem? Is it really slow then? |

The logo - or rather the header graphic with the logo in 77k because the jpeg is 99% quality. Just reduce it to 80% and it'll be 20.5k - or 70% for 15k.
Fireworks...

Reducing the JPG quality usually doesn't hurt the image quality much, if at all. We use 51% for everything. 50% looks a lot different on many images. Just drop it a bit and see what it looks like. You can always go back if you decide that modem users will wait. Brian.

I love the logo, it is very clever. However, it's clever for someone who already knows you - is that the only market you are looking for at your site?
I agree with N30 - add a small line so those who don't know the name already "get it." Just my two cents..... Red Herself A newbie at websites but an oldie at marketing :) |

But i wouldn't change what you have already, the monkey 'o' is very clever. Just a quick word about branding... Saw a "Focus Factor" vitamin pills commercial recently. The next time it came on I decided to count how many times the name "Focus Factor" was spoken during the commercial. 6 times, so that's once every 5 seconds in the 30-second commercial. But they did it without making it sound repetetive. Very intentional. Of all the commercials I see, interesting I remember that product name clearly (and I didn't even have to take the pills to remember... ;]) Best regards!

I think it this is a very clever logo and I do not think that the average person will have any problems recognizing the monkey's head as an O.
That being said, I agree that it would be more effective to add the full name "Munkey Online", perhaps under the logo in small all-caps letters with a large horizontal letter spacing (so it takes up the same horizontal space as the logo). First, this provides an immediate mental association between the logo and the name (especially for new users, and due to the strange spelling of monkey). You are correct that most users (but not all) going to your site could see the name of the URL and know that the name is Munkey Online. However, if some users click on a link that is in a frame, they will not see the address bar. Furthermore, if you ever use this logo in print media, most readers unfamiliar with Munkey Online will see that there is a monkey, and that there is the word "online", but will not relate the logo to Munkey Online unless they are already familiar with this brand. As your brand gains popularity, you might be able to get away with eliminating the extra text in certain cases. All the best, Andrew

Thanks again for all your comments! I do see your point about having the name under the logo. This is something I will consider and add to adverts etc. At the moment I don't think this is necessary on the website.

MuNKy,
I see where you're going, but here's why I think it's not working for you. The monky picture has pretty slim lines, and the rest of the lettrs are quite bold and fat. I think in this particular case you'd be better off using some fonts with serifs. Give it a shot and see what happens.

I see what you mean but I think it looks fine! I think the font is fine also! If anything were to change (which it isn't) I would make the munky a bit more chunky.
I think I should be pleased with what you've said about my logo ReviewGolf.com, considering the reviews that you've given other people =P |

Hey MuNky,
I see no reason why this logo should receive mixed reviews ... it is well done. Idea: I don't know if you apply this, but this logo could afford you the ability to change the overall top end color of your web site once a month to give the site that fresh look. It's an idea. Looks great. A. |
|

|
Thanks oilnetcom! Your idea is great! The design did actually begin orange and red rather than blue. In the bottom right of the interface there is a name for the interface - v1 ice. Inititially it was v1 fire, as you say I could change it quite frequently.

Ok MuNKy,
You reviewed me...I review you. Nice logo. Clean. does the job of pulling your site together. Now. The only thing is I think you should adjust the stroke around the logo and push the monky closer to the rest of the text. I'm never good at perfectly explaining things so I recreated your logo to show you what I'm talking about. Good Luck!

My original design for my site included an over the top flash window as the top section of the site. Where two doors opened to show a screen inside. The logo then was drawn on the screen by lasers! It ended up being way too much to put on a website, the lasers did look good though! In the end I decided to keep the window and make something similar to the screen and kept it as an image. That's why the logo is flat - cos it's on a screen. I suppose at some point I could change it and make the logo a bit more interesting and three dimensional. Cheers Panther!

panthers logo design is a little cleaner looking. But I still like the orginal. That one has made an impression for anyone that first sees it.

I think it's good enough for you to get away with having people pay you to publicise the logo - you've got a serious shot at some merchandising opportunities - or at least your clients won't be filing your mugs and t-shirts in the bin when you dole out the freebies.

If you've got the time and patience to get serious about the marketing and merchandising, here goes...
You can do the merchandising yourself with your local print shop and handle the order processing and packing, but I'm guessing you'd prefer to get on with what you know best - it's tiresome and involves a lot of programming and form filling if you want to accept credit cards. You can automate the whole process using a service like equisto.co.uk, but you're still going to have to get involved with creating a buzz around your logo and services, which means offline rather than online. Pick your target audience and your target promoters, and get people noticing the 'design' and make sure you communicate clearly that it's linked to a website. An interesting example of this is crackheadlighters.com I believe... You could also throw some funny flash videos into the mix, try to create a lifestyle approach to the design and tie it all back to the website. A brief overview, but let me know if you need any details, Alex

That is cause you have a great logo and others like it so they reply back on it. You must of hit the nail on the head when you made it. I like it a lot.
