darkins
Hello.
I'm a Java Developer, so as you can probably tell, I'm no web/design specialist.. at all.. so be kind :)
I was kind of going for basic and clear/neat; but slightly modern, at the same time.. Also something that would be easily implemented into a website (ie; not too colourful, easily downsized, etc).
( If it fails to load: http://www.freewebs.com/darkins/Proposal1.jpg )
Have I achieved this?
Any comments are welcome.
Thanks.
Rob.

Hi and let me beat everyone else in being the first to welcome you to WPW :p
With regards to your logo, it is indeed simple as you admit but could work. However I would general recommend some kind of distinct shape that would give you greater brand recognition. But like I said it could work.
BTW, when i looked at your username i misread it a Dawkins and expected to reply to the Evolutionary Psychologist Richard Dawkins lol

lol :)
Hi jkomp.
Thanks for the response.. I agree, it does need something extra (ie: a shape of some kind), but, I can't think of anything... As I've mentioned, my experience with design is limited - do you have any ideas?
I would much appreciate it.
Cheers,
Rob.

Hi darkins, and welcome to WPW.
I'd be interested in knowing more about the theme or how the logo will be used, which would help in generating ideas for a logo shape.
I think you're on the right track with the font, color, and the beginning of a concept with the subtle triangle masked from the right side of the "n". I'm just wondering if for continuity if the idea couldn't be carried over in a larger scale somehow...

Hi,
I'm aiming for something "neat" and "modern". I don't really like what I've produced, but I can't think of anything better, that hasn't already been taken. lol.
I was really hoping for some sort of symbol; like Apple computers have their apple (which I think is one of the best logos ever). But, what sort of symbol could represent "Darkins"?
My company, will be offering custom Java Development. I'm not sure if that's useful for you to know?
I'm currently toying around with the company name.. I've considered:
Darkins Development
and
Darkins Software
I haven't really decided yet; but if I choose to affix "development" or "software" (or something else), then that'll probably just be a light-grey, text string.. (easily implemented).
This logo, once complete, will go everywhere really.. Letter heads, company website, business cards, etc..
I really appreciate the input.. and if you come up with a totally different, new idea; then I'd love to see/hear it.. even if it couldn't be more different to the logo I produced; I'm open for all suggestions.
Thanks very much for participating. :)
Rob.

Though this isn't specific, (for the moment), I'm thinking if there could be a shape or design that might sell the sizzle more than the steak. Sorry for the cliche. To explain, look at Amazon's logo -- a smile integrated into the name. Though they're known for books initially, their logo reflects what they're really selling to the customer.
Maybe there's a concept you're selling that you would want to be associated with your name that would entice the customer, such as the creativity behind the business, the ideas, the potential to grow (or stimulate growth), entertainment, task handling, etc.
Rather than come up with an idea for you, since no one knows your product/service like you do, I'm thinking it may be more advantageous to help spark an idea or direction -- maybe standing a better chance of success in the long run.
