Default Vanguard Software

Our logo (as it appears on our web site) is . The size and the background colour are just to match the rest of the site.

Our company markets a sales automation system, running on Pocket PCs. You can read all about it on our web site. We sell on our site, and via agents. We also sell a free licenses through Handango, and PocketGear.

Our current logo is based on the icon we use for our Pocket PC program. This is a 16x16, 256 colour bitmap - hence the simplicity. We would like to keep the overall design, if possible.

Hi

Dispensing with the critique of the actual design itself, consider that in three years time you make it big... How will the logo look in black & white?

Why black and white you ask? - well, you might need a B&W version for yellow pages ads, faxing etc. As it stands, it won't work very well without having to modify it.

A secondary consideration should be the green used in the logo. That bright green just isn't going to reproduce in printed media (software boxes, letterheads, business cards?) unless you use costly specialist inks. Better to use a shade of green that will reproduce accurately across many different media.

Hope this helps,

Mark :)

Agree with Eagle Imagery post in all regards, with the one note that you do have a black single-pixel border around the green bit on your site... but it still falls a bit flat...

I would think perhaps you might consider making the "V" a part of a logo that goes "[V]anguard" at least for the web, as otherwise it looks awfully lonely over there. Cutting into the "V" a little to get less of a triangle and more of a, well, "V" shape would also be my recommendation.

I think moving away from that black-background header would also be a good idea, just in the spirit of making a literally "lighter" feel to the site. A client I work with, Veracity, has had some similar logo thought/design with their "V" - you may want to check their logo out, and see if it inspires any new ideas?
