PDfoto.com Logo. Good, bad, Ugly?
hey guys,
Finished updating my logo a bit and feel my logo isn't quite "popping" the way it should.
Tell me about it...
http://www.pdfoto.com
Suggestions and real feedback please. I see that this is a great topic and have read other feedback given to other members, and think if I want to make my logo "pop" and get good brand recognition then I should at least have it reviewed.
What's your opinion?

Hi
It's very, err... basic! ;-)
I'd at least add a color to lift it out. As it stands, it kinda drifts into the background.
These days, there's many sites springing up offering photo libraries and suchlike. I'd recommend getting a logo that stands out...one that people will remember. :-)
Hope this helps,
Mark :-)

Is your logo the black circle with the letters PD inside? It's very basic. When reviewing a logo, I like to share my first impression - with your logo, I am reminded of the country stickers on cars (NL = Netherlands, etc.).
Try incorporating a camera lens or camera. Infuse the design with some color and depth.
For excellent samples of logo designs, review Mark's Eagle Imagery web site by following the link above.

I just took a look, and the "foto.com" part is very hard to read, especially the "foto" part. All of the letters seem to cram together very tight. I think the dark text on a darkish blue background might be adding to the difficulty.
It also doesn't look that smooth -- the outline around the circle and on the letters "PD" have a jagged, pixelated look to them.
I do really like that shade of blue. A friend of mine who works in catalogs told me recently about how those medium shades of blue are the big popular color.

Hi,
First, I think the colors of your logo do not accord with the other colors of your site, and putting the white and blue colors together makes my eyes uncomfortable. And if you could add some creativity to your logo, it will be much more better.

Hi Quicksilverdirect,
Your logo is still too simple :)
Good luck!

Simple is what I am looking for...:)
KISS method - Keep It Super Simple
it projects the idealism of the public domain and the openness of the genre.

Greetings - Quicksilverdirect!
Here is something simple that pops you can incorporate into your existing logo - just a thought.
btw - In defense of your simplistic approach - take a look the Overture.com logo - nothing fancy there.
Cheers!

Hi Max,
Always look forward to reading your posts...
Thanks for the logo idea. Certainly something to think about.
I have been working on it for the last week and have changed it probably 3 times since I first posted here just about a week ago.
Rework, revamp, redo, and do it over...:D
Boy am I tired, been working really hard on this site for the last 10 days... went 2 days straight with only a 3 hour "power nap" and then started back on it again.
I think if I spend more time on the LOGO I will just take it off the site entirely, that way when people go to my site they will wonder what the name of the site is and stay longer...:D lol
Anyway my marketing strategy seems to be working rather well. I have got 8 people to sign up, and over 80 people to add me to their favorites. 80 People out of the 550 or so unique users to visit my site, ain't bad.
I will be re-working the LOGO maybe one more time, with probably some very minor changes. It seems with all the feedback I am getting now on this forum and others, not to mentions emails and others helpign me out to fine tune the look and feel of my site, it has helped a lot.
I really appreciate everyones input on on my site and keep the critiques coming. They always help.
I thank everyone for their opinions and mostly for their help...:)

Looks allright
Hey - I agree with the others here. I think your logo is pretty simple, and does not really convey anything. I'd think about the subject of your site when creating your logo, as opposed to focusing on the initials PD. Just my humble thoughts.

(this isn't ment to be rude) [honest opinion] it looks kinda cheesy. it's TO plain. plain is a good thing, but it looks like something you made with paint.
just my opinion.

I would add a "glass reflection" for the circle and I would make the writting seem that it was cut in the glass and filled with a metalic thing, or lava :). You need to add some effects to it.

OK, hey guys... Which logo are you looking at?
The one in my post, or the one that is actually on my site?
If you guys are looking at the one on my site then that is correct one. It's the one on this site:
http://www.pdfoto.com
Anyway, the plain and simple, cut and dry of it?
Yes it is plain...:)
Yes it is simple...:)
Yes it has effects...:)
(lots of effects actually for such a small logo.)
Yes it does have a slight lense flare look to it...:)
the current logo that is on my site now in the over-all opinion of everyone who has posted, emailed, called, and commented has been overwhelmingly positive. In fact people like the new logo so much I have even created a PD-Gear store selling merchandise with the logo on it. (not promoting it here! simply discussing the relevence of the logo. not off-topic...:)
Anyway, I welcome everyones opionions.
I also thank everyone who has given me their honest and helpful crtiques of my logo. That is what this is all about. I am glad you are all here to help me and other members out.
I appreciate it. Keep up the great critiques and keep the advice flowing. I assure you it does not fall on deaf ears. Maybe a little hard of hearing though... Huh? What?

I like it! I don't think you need to make the letters embossed or anything.
I thought KISS was Keep It Simple Stupid? (grin!)
The one thing that might help the logo pop out a little more is to carry those bright blue colors more through-out the website. Also, I would say that the photos to the right of the logo really don't NEED to be there. There are lots of thumbnails right on the homepage, anyway. Without them, your logo might jump out a little more. Or put them at the right side of the header.... Just a couple ideas!
But overall, I think the logo looks professional and nice.
