Need help w/logo--I have decided on a previously posted design--it was developed in Paint shop Pro--however in developing my biz cards the logo is not crystal clear--not sure if it is my hp printer or if it's the graphic itself..I created it w/a 72dpi..do i need to make any adjustments...when printed it looks a little pixelated--(viewing on the computer it is crisp)...please advise..

Hey Maleka... Welcome to the world of printing.

i'll get right to the point. 72dpi is a screen resolution and used in web, cd-rom, video and e-presentations only. Also if you want to get the best quality print of non-photographic images i suggest you use a vector software such as illustrator, freehand etc.

Are you using home/office printer or commercial/print shop to print your cards.

If you use home/office printer you should be ok with not less then 150dpi max 300.

If you use commercial printing here are the specs you should follow when designing for print.
Resolution: 150dpi - 266dpi
Color mode: CMYK (CMYK is in mixture colors)
Preferably use vector software for text and logos (easy to manipulate and edit, less heavy and print size would never be an issue.)

Do not in no way expand your graphic if you use such software as paint shop pro! it will distort it.
Just create one high quality high resolution graphic, something like 5X7 at 300dpi. You can always decrease it's size for other use.

Thanks Vlad--very clear and concise...I am using home printers (one hp and one lexmark) I am using Paint Shop Pro but I do have Photoshop as well (in the process of learning photoshop)--in re creating the logo as 5x7--How should I save the file (jpg, gif, both)..As the 5x7--will I have to decrease the size in the paint shop program or will I be able to reduce the size in whatever program I am working in using the logo...

What did you think about the logo design itself?

Hey Maleka,
I just wanted to comment on your logo, and I think is pretty hot. Its catches the eye real quick, and it looks clean and professional.

Regarding the problem you were having, I think vladiman cover everything you need to do.

Thanks V for the feedback--worked really hard on it and now things are seemingly moving forward for me...Now of course I am experiencing another bump in the road, but this too shall pass w/the help of others...Thanks a bunch....

I suggest you save the file in the format that does not compress you work, such as: EPS or TIFF/TIF raw, You can also save the file in high quality JPEG but JPEG doesn't let you keep your background transparent.

About the logo, i think you did a very good job... the only think i am having trouble with is the icon shadow, it look a bit illogical in it's form and confuses the eye coordination. Other then that...Great.
