Twitter for SEO - No Purpose for Twitter
I did not get Twitter and did not see a value in Twitter, especially when viewing it from an SEO viewpoint. But, as I wrote about in my latest article (No Purpose for Twitter) I have come to see a different viewpoint.

Flash, Progressive Enhancement and Google
While this may be an ancient topic exhausted ages ago, I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask a couple of "what is right with google" questions. My interest is devoted to the issues to be associated with SEO for Flash. The most viable practice here as of now seems to be progressive enhancement, which is basically providing an HTML version of the SWF content for search engines and/or people with Flash disabled in their browsers...

Do dashes in your domain hurt your SERP?
I have a 3 word domain with dashes between them as so: my-domain-name . com will search engines consider this spammy? will it hurt my SERP? I don't intend to tell anyone this domain over phone, nore do I even intend for someone to type this domain in their address bar. I don't really care if anyone remembers this domain or not, it's not a name of company or brand or whatever, and I already own mydomainname . com...

Cheating Backlinks?
When looking for places to get links to our site, we are often advised to look at the incoming links on the competition's sites. So this is what I was doing. Enter the keywords in Google (coloring book); Go to the first site listed; Click the Backward links button in the Google toolbar...

An SEO Problem Without an Answer?
Now that I've got your attention, I was wondering if anyone can solve the wonderful mystery that is my site's failing SEO. I've been working on the same site for over a year and keep regressing despite best efforts. Google is crediting 0 backlinks despite the fact I know i have inbound links. Not even internal links are showing up as they do for some competitors...

Will slight alterations significantly hurt your SEO?
We used to rank 4th and 5th on our most valuable keywords. One day we made a change to the content in our landing pages. These were little changes like changing half a dozen words from one to another. eg - we changed the word "village" to "community" and these words had no relationship to our targeted keywords. My point is, 2 weeks after these changes, we dropped in our ranking from 4th and 5th down to 9th and 10th...

How does Google handle Cloud Hosting?
I've been looking into Cloud Hosting to see if its a viable alternative for us. The costs have come down and for us its now comparable to a virtual server. However, we are a UK based business and we currently host in the UK. With Cloud Hosting, the servers could be just about anywhere...

Is GoogleBot a Hidden Spy?
I would like to share some unusual experience with you all. Last month, I was searching for some new updates on Google and came across various forums/blogs. However, 4-5 forums required me to login before actually view the content of the site...

Age hurdle
I believe that old domains which are constantly updated with either new products or new information have an advantage over new domains in terms of high ranking. Are we agreed? I think it is a good way of filtering through serious websites/companies so that every tom, dick and harry who has a good idea doesnt make a website today and its straight to the top of the list tomorrow...

Google Webmaster Tools
I would like to ask if anyone else has noticed differences in the stated position of a website in Webmaster Tools and those in Google itself?I have one site in particular that generally ranks well for some quite competitive keyphrases. My google webmaster tools account shows the website as having a position of number 7.

Still frustrated and not giving up...
I know this must be going against a code of ethics in the forum but I'm reposting anyway because of this CSS bug that I am having in IE7. I have been searching everywhere for the answer (and no, I am not going to give in to using tables for my layout). Here is where I am at: still can't center content in IE7 and I do have a doc type at the top of my html page...

As many of you know I'm hitting the road and becoming a "travelling SEO". Just me, a laptop and the worlds WLANs! Regional SEO Techniques. How fast do you see the results of your SEO efforts?
Interesting. I knew the following example would be the result. A client asked us to get them found for "(car brand name) sales (city)". I was asked by my team mates to bring the guy up. I did a little this and that and told them to check the results in two weeks although I knew the effect would be obvious within a few days...

Does this constitute duplicate content?
Hope you can help, I want to make sure that I am not getting penalised for duplicate content penalties and if so then perhaps someone could suggest a fix. I have a page where customers select their printer (php page) and this then takes them to their particular printer... the selection page is Compatible inkjet printer cartridges - Epson, Canon and HP ink - then I have a rewritre that converts the dynamic php results page to an html page - an example would be...

Ethics of knocking-off a competitor
A company was founded which looked at a new market where there was alot of growth. A B2B software as a service (subscription based web-application) offering was identified. There are a few competitors in the field. The company essentially used the best competitor as a "model" and copied most of the features. BUT - specifically re-created the interface, all the text, images, etc. The application looks different and nowhere does the app attempt to mislead the user that they are using the competitors product...

Well Optimized Website Can't Convert Traffic into Sales?
I am working for a client that has an ecommerce site (www.accessorygenie.com) and have been optimizing the site for the last 6 months. The site has jumped in organic rankings and traffic, yet still does not convert more than 5 sales a day. We have nearly 300 unique visitors daily, all of which are targeted and have landed on the pages they are looking for.
