1 single account at G\Y\MSN for multiple sites; or different accounts for each site?
One single webmaster account at G, Y & MSN for multiple
websites; or different accounts for
each of your websites? Is there any downside or disadvantage
to having one single webmaster account
at G, Y and MSN for all of one's websites...

Robots.txt can pass PageRank?
I have a question based on the following scenario.
Lets say I have a robots.txt like this: User-agent: * Disallow: /file1.html Disallow: /file2.html Disallow: /folder1/ Disallow: /folder2/
Sitemap: http://www.mywebsite.com/sitemap.xml
As we know Google follows the link to the sitemap.xml.
Then lets say I posted on several forums, blogs, etc a link to my robots.txt, and at some point my robots.txt have received PageRank. Like for example the WhiteHouse robots.txt or others...

The decline and fall of a great website
I've been dabbling ever more seriously in web since 1997, online information since 1994 - Minitel. What I do now in terms of web promotion is utterly different to what I did 3 years ago, this is an industry where you have to both evolve to stay competitive and have a crystal ball to gauge what is coming next. I expect I devote almost 50% of my time on my own sites just to see what works so I can translate to client sites...

Regional sites - How to let the SE's know?
Is there a way of telling the searching engines that one site is for the UK and another for the US? I have two very similar sites, one on a .co.uk targeting the UK, another on a .com targeting the US. Apart from a few spelling and pricing differences the sites are identical...

SEO Should Be Dead
I want to start by saying I do not believe in onsite SEO or believe that it will still exist five years from now. SEO is about things like; optimizing a keyword in the H1 tag, enhancing the title tag, keyword density, keyword proximity, internal linking with proper anchor text, validating your code, using CSS over tables, optimal use of flash and Java, we know the search engines like certain standards, so we use them...

Sponsored Links
Can anyone tell me please what percentage of searchers use the "Sponsored Links" at the top of Google's organic search results? The SEO company trying hook me are saying 30% but I'm sure they would inflate this to an extent in their push for business. I'm trying to decide whether or not to spend £400 for the first month and £80 per month after that, for a Sponsored Link placement for 5 key phrases...

Call To Action / Language / Vocabulary
Well, the first thing isn't really a call to action I'm thinking about - it's the vocabulary or language used - like the difference between a phrase that I have now on my website..."Want More Customers?"...and the phrase I was thinking of changing this to, something like - "Get More Customers" or "Drive More Customers to Your Business"

Strange Server Requests
My Local Development Linux box is making very odd requests to search engines and it appears to be a weekly event judging by the logs. Looks like they are all looking at port 80 - Only trouble is that this box is on our local network and behind a firewall that blocks all inbound traffic so what's happening...

Google Adwords NOT good at placing ads
Sometimes, when I have posted a story on to one of my Blogger sites, an advert appears on the Blogger.com page. These adverts are always 100% properly targeted towards the post I have just made. For example I wrote an article on ethanol fuelled fireplaces and an advert for ethanol fuelled fireplaces showed up in an instance...

Formatting Web 2.0 Pages
I've built 2 Squidoo lenses and am creating 4 more.
I sell many different products related to one theme - housed on a website.
On the next four I'm targeting the most popular sections on my website (for both shoppers and myself).
Is it a good idea for search and customers to format them as "How To's."

An Easy Way To Drive Traffic To Your Site
I’ve been making my living online since the end of 2002 and have enjoyed every second of it, well…almost every second. I guess one of the neatest things about making a living online is the people you meet and the willingness to share. So I thought I would share a little as well...

RSS Feeds
When creating and publishing posts in your blogs do you submit your RSS Feeds to aggregrators? If so do you manually submit them or use a one-time submission package offered by different companies? I am asking because I want to know how to get the most exposure for my blog, and if RSS Feeds can increase my exposure.

Laziness - should I exclude many directories from robots
Just a quick question that crossed my mind today. My site has many directories located in the home directory - i.e. the same directory that all my html files are in (some may see it as www or public_html directory) now most of these directories just contain images or scripts but they are not really useful to the search engines...

O.K. do not link to me
One of the biggest problems with link building is webmasters are simply being too fussy. WebPro World has a separate section for link exchanges and I read it now and then. . It seems to be common practise to ask for PR2 or above...

Confused at how CSS layouts work - need help!
I got this CSS layout scheme online that I've been playing around with to make it look the way I want it to. I'm working on trying to make a 1-1-3-1-1 column layout. The CSS uses a "container" DIV to try and separate all the different elements on the page (ie: header, content, footer).

Linux VPS with multiple IPs
I have a client who owns 1000's of hours of video footage, he wants to be able to put it on the web in a format where people can only view it by paying say £1 per snippet, we have to also prevent people from downloading it and copying/distributing it - so need a pay on demand and watch it by streaming the movie clips...

Charge for video content on demand
I am looking for a new hosting provider for some small sites and need a recommendation. I've got 5 domains that are all fairly new and thus little to no traffic. I want to host them all on a single server to save money and make it easier to manage. I prefer a VPS plan because I get dedicated resources but not the management need of a dedicated server...

Help with Site Loading Slow
I was recently given the task of taking over management of a website for a wedding magazine. One of the first tasks was to move the site to a brand new dedicated server from a 4 to 5 year old server. Once that was complete the site owner started to indicate that the site was loading slower...
