New TLDs Arriving '09? I bet some of you have known about this for ages but I haven't seen any discussions on it so far. What does everyone think about the ramifications of such a shake-up? Good or bad? I think the world has taken .com into its heart and it is now so standardised (in the same way .co.uk is in the UK) that it is part of our daily vocabulary ("why dont you go and log on to shut the hell up .com!?").

Huge Differences In The Amount Of Returned I've been doing some keyword research for an air conditioning rental client of ours. My usual process is to head to wordtracker, collect a big list of keywords and head to google to check out the competition for each of those keywords.

Please Help Me In Choosing Web Hosting I need your help in find new web hosting provider as soon as possible, because my current host (bluehost.com) is kicking me off, they say 'your account is using a lot server resources', but my website gets only about 200 visitors per day and my disk usage is 1500 MB (maybe they do not like that?)

Redirecting A Redirect At the moment we have redirects in place from old locations pages to new Location Pages. We need to remove some of the location pages and redirect them to existing ones.

Planning For Scheduled Maintenance In the very near future, I will upgrade Apache and a few of the other applications on one of my servers. My question is how can I do this upgrade so that there will be minimal disruption for the search engine spiders, and so that visitors would be able to see an appropriate message about the redesign, instead of an error message from their browsers?

Changing Domain From .com To .co.uk We've recently relaunched a site (Holidays to Cape Verde with The Cape Verde Experience) and have also changed the domain from a .com to a .co.uk. What affect, if any will this have on rankings? I ask the question a little disingenuously because we have experienced an almost catastrophic drop in the rankings - some of the major terms for which we ranking very well, e.g. Cape Verde for which we were regularly in the...

Changing Page Title - How Bad Will This Hurt Me? I have a domain which has been operational for around a year now (found HERE), and we have good ranking for several of our target keywords. However, the company direction is slowly changing and I would like to change the page titles to reflect this.

Old Menu Script Now Out Of Date - What Should I Tell Clients? In 2003 I bought a drop down menu script from Opencube and it was wonderful and I used it extensively on client sites and have been doing so right up til recently as I got used to how to use it. However, it now seems that the latest update to IE7 no longer works with that menu, presumeably configurations have changed.

Hijacking Other Sites For Traffic And Content Framing someone else's Website. "When frames were introduced, it soon became clear that it was now possible to not only include someone else's images in your own Webpage, but entire Websites as well. This feature was quickly misused to build sites where advertisements were shown in one frame, and content from other sites in another.

Opinions On Test Landing Page Please! I started a new Adwords campaign 2 weeks ago and it was going ok, but not amazing. The landing pages were exiting pages within my site, and I have now decided to create custom 'standalone' landing pages. I think that using exiting pages may have caused people to either navigate away from the form, or just pick up the phone (as the companies phone number is on the main banner image), therefore making it difficult...

Moving Site - Complex Question Client has old established .com domain that for years was on first page of Google for most of their key terms. Has lots of natural incoming links to the .com domain. Last fall, domain was zapped/penalized down approximately 60 positions for their keywords, no changes were made to explain this, but we did find that the client's content was copied by a proxy site at the very same time that this happened.

Would This Be Considered Paying For A Link? So it's Friday the 13th. Are any of you out there superstitious? Or had any bad Friday the 13th experiences? We seem to have a few of them a year, they don't bother me, and half the time I forget what the day is anyways. :) But, if you have any stories about it I would love to hear them!

Is Onsite SEO Dying Down? I've started playing around a Little the last couple weeks with some new sites as well as a couple blogs and to be totally truthful I've not spent much time with onsite SEO. I set the blogs up to pull the title and meta tags from the article header and use the same text in the sites url and that's about it.

Put Blog Inside Website Or Outside The Website? I am the moderator/boss in a dispute with two of my associates. We have decided to let the readers of Webproworld determine who is correct (we recognize that there may not be an answer that is absolutely definitive since Google never let's us know all of their secrets, but we will go with the majority...majority will rule here).

Outbound Links I'm just developing a directory service for Remedial Massage Therapists in Australia (Remedial Massage Clinics). A few of those listings on the site have asked that there be a link to their own websites. My questions are:(1) Will including outbound links to their own websites have an impact with respect to the search engines (negative, positive or just neutral)?

Competitor Using Negative SEO Against Your Site? I've had a client that had one of their sites dropped down past page 300 on Google for their main search term. It turned out that somebody had sites banned by Google linking to their site with the key words that they are going after. The company had to take legal action on the sites to get the links removed.

How do I implement 301 redirect with html? I've recently set up a new leaflet printing website to replace my old domain. I know a bit about 301 redirects and have managed to implement one for the home page by replacing the index.htm file with a index.php file, and placing a php redirect in the header.

Why is PR Different on an URL When Capitalized Instead of Lowercase? I am a novice in the SEO/web world but I do know that toolbar PR is an unreliable factor, however, I am working on a website that was redesigned in September of 2007 and there is something I don't understand about its PR as reported on the toolbar.

Contract Conflict! Now What? I've got a contract negotiation issue and would love your advice. Our company's standard web development contract states that the client maintains rights to the text and content and we maintain the copyright of the design. This is for two reasons. 1.) The client doesn't normally have the legal or financial resources to handle a copyright battle.
