WebProWorld Members,
During the election in November, one of the issues
I was most interested to hear about from the candidates
was technology. It's generally not an important
issue in the grand scheme of an election, but for
someone like myself I hold the topic in high regard.
In Obama's technology layout I found one topic in
his proposal most interesting. Interesting
enough that I wrote about it. Here's his statement,
"Making government data available online
in universally accessible formats to allow citizens
to make use of that data to comment, derive value,
and take action in their own communities. Greater
access to environmental data, for example, will
help citizens learn about pollution in their communities,
provide information about local conditions back
to government and empower people to protect themselves."
During his campaign Obama backed up these words
by utilizing social networking as a major campaign
tool. Don't believe me then look at the amount of
followers he has on Twitter,
and Facebook.
Recently, a
comment was made by Obama's press secretary
that made me perk an ear up. During an interview
with C-Span he states that Twitter is blocked on
all White House computers. Yet, if you visit Obama's
Twitter page, or the White
House's Twitter page you'll see that they're
are very recent updates. This of course begs the
questions -- Who's updating these profiles? And
where are they updating them from?
More than likely the news is sent to an offsite
locations for tweeting/updating, but I just thought
it was odd that Twitter itself would be blocked
at the White House. Especially, on every computer.
Perhaps I'm making too much of this but I just found
it interesting. What says you - conspiracy
;) or just interesting little tid bit?
The ideas presented in the WebProWorld newsletter
editor's note do not reflect the thoughts, and
ideas of the WebProWorld community.

Why are unoptimized pages at the top of google?
There's something that Google does that confuses me! I have some pages that use competitive keywords and have no backlinks. The thing is...some of them are at the top of google.co.uk and google.com. Any idea why this could be? The only thing I can think of is that the pages have a very high click through/conversion rate. I have a theory that google might use this when deciding where to place a page on it's index.
Now, there's some pages on the site that are well optomised, have less competative keywords and good, relevent backlinks. Yet, some of them barely scrape into the top 10. Typical!
Some insight from thos in the know would be great!

If rel="nofollow" no longer works, then how do you stop passing PR to OBL's?
Hi all. I needed to put some links on my pages that went to other sites. Like I've been doing for years, I used the rel="nofollow" tag because manufacturers of products certainly do not need any PR from me.
I see that tag is now bogus, useless. This is yet another way that G has ruined the internet. Now our internal pages' PR is dropping, because our previously rel="nofollow" tagged OBL's are now taking PR from our own internal links, resulting in our pages getting demoted in the G SERP's. Well done google. And their ongoing war against small business/small sites wages on.
So how in the hell are we supposed to prevent PR10/9/8 sites from getting our own pages' PR that our own internal pages so desperately need!?!?!? Can this be done with some kind of CSS or JS, SSI, or something else? What are you all doing about this?

OSComm - Add to Cart Redirect
Okay, I am having problems with the "add to cart" button on any index.php pages (essentially all non product_info.php pages with add to cart button) redirecting to product_new.php.
I am running the 2.2RC whatever version with multiple contributions added on, redirect to cart in admin turned OFF and a custom template.
What I have discovered is that when on the product_info.php page (item details) and I click the "add to cart" button, I am return to the product_info.php page of the product I just added.
The problem is that when clicking add to cart from any of the index.php "preview" of products add to cart button, this is when it redirects to the product_new.php. This event is true for any time the index.php page is shown, including when it has categories paths such as index.php?cPath=2_20.
Now sadly I do not know enough to determine where this bit is coming from. I checked the index.php for clues and got nothing that I could deduce. I beleive this is caused by the template used on the site, but again I am not sure where to look to correct.
If you are interested to see what I am referring to please check my site here: SPOG - San Pedro Online Grocery
Can this be changed in the code? If not can a redirect of some sort be used that won't mess everything else up?

Dynamic [title] according to page URL
I am developing a website using [?php include(''); ?] function. Entire website is divided into 5 templates such as "meta.php","header.php","navigation.php","righ t-menu.php", "footer.php". Till now [title], [meta keywords], [meta description] are static and place manually. I want these information to be dynamic from a .xml file stored inside server.
I am already able to fetch [meta keywords] and [meta descriptions] using php "simplexml_load_file". I want [title] to appear according to page URL/page name.I have few sets of [title] for each individual page inside .xml file. As an instance, for http://www.examplesite.com/vocal-science.php I have "Vocal Science" string.
Is it possible to fetch individual keywords from .xml file according to page URL? This is the solution I am looking for desperately. Any example or any tutorial is appreciable.
