Is anyone else suffering from Twitter exhaustion? I honestly can't turn the TV on or even listen to the radio without hearing about what's happening on Twitter. Yes, it's here to stay but it doesn't mean Twitter is the perfect social platform by any means.

It is being reported on the D: All Things Digital blog that Twitter will be rolling out some changes next week, their homepage specifically. Here are some of the changes you can expect to find on Twitter's main page:

"People arriving at the new main homepage will be greeted by a search box, information on Twitter trends and a panoply of more specific information about how they can use Twitter."

On the same blog, we get some insight behind the changes from Twitter's own Biz Stone. He believes that many of the activity problems that Twitter faces (only 10% of it's users make 90% of the tweets) is caused by the fact that when people start their accounts they don't grasp what the service is about.

I think it's a novel concept, because I'll be honest in saying I had no idea what Twitter was when I first used it. My first thought was -- why is updating, and keeping up with others at 140 characters/tweet a good thing?

To coincide with the home page redesign, Twitter has released a tutorial called Twitter 101. Inside there are hints/tips on how to get started using the site. I especially like Twitter's answer to the question -- What is Twitter?

"Every day, millions of people use Twitter to create, discover and share ideas with others. Now, people are turning to Twitter as an effective way to reach out to businesses, too. From local stores to big brands, and from brick-and-mortar to internet-based or service sector, people are finding great value in the connections they make with businesses on Twitter."

What was your experience like when you first used Twitter? Have you just started an account and are confused about what it's used for? You can discuss the topic here, or as always my inbox is open.

The ideas presented in the WebProWorld newsletter editor's note do not reflect the thoughts, and ideas of the WebProWorld community.

SEO for pictures?

SEO for pictures?
While everyone is clamouring to be best ranked for sites, what about pictures? Most SERPS have several filter options like blogs, pictures, news etc. And they all link somewhere. What do you think of targeting picture rankings?

Let's say the first page for "dogs" has 10 of your pictures, going back to your site, would that be equal to being ranked #1 for "dogs" for sites?

First off, you have too many ads. Google ads are pay per click; you're going to get nothing for having them there. The AdBrite ads are intrusive, especially on pages such as your Terms Of Service page.

Advice on Picking Domain with Age or Not

Hey guys. I need a little advice. We will be launching a new site. And it's going to be important to try to establish SERPs / organic traffic as quickly as possible. We have a number of domains we purchased back in 2004 that we can pick a name from (bought several names littered with important keywords at the time). And I'm unsure how important domain age is. And whether or not a domain has age, but has been unused, does the age still add value (or as much). So my options are:

1 - Use a domain that has been up and running since 2004, but not used much. Gets indexed regularly (has been used recently as a blog that we can replace). The URL is fine, but unfortunately it's a .us which doesn't excite me. I personally prefer .com's as I assume they're easier to remember for the customer. It has a couple of inbound links, but not enough for that to be a determining factor.

2 - We also own the .com version of the same domain name (since '04). So it has some age. I don't know why we used the .us version instead of the .com version when it was first setup. It's possible that both were setup at one point pointing towards the same site, and only one (the .us) got migrated to the new server (which would have happened about a year ago). I noticed the .com is pointed towards our old server. Which means that it MIGHT have been live at one point.

3 - Go ahead and just get a new name and don't worry about the age of the domain.

***

And one more thing. We're probably 60 days away from launching the site. I could go ahead and move the blog at the .us to the .com so there's live content there for the next two months. If that's a benefit.

Google News Feed in RSS - What happened to it?

I was once able to call out to Google's News Feeder (output=rss) and have it return news in RSS format. I noticed I have not received new news in many days. My cron job is executing nightly, but 0 results are returned.

I decided to execute the url directly, but now, it redirects me to Google's new RSS Reader page.

A sample url is: http://news.google.com/news?pz=1&ned...ama&output=rss

What gives?

Anyone know what happened?

Is there a work-around?

Thanks in advance...

Google AdWords Discussion Forum
I Have Been Spending $5000 Per Month on Adwords. Better Ideas How To Buy Ads?

I have been spending about $5000. per month on advertising with Adwords and I am sick of them. Banning my domains, not because of quality, but because of clickthrough rates. I could care less about clickthrough rates I just want qualified visitors not clicks.

Google is so arrogant they do not even tell you why they stop the campaigns. I reset the campaigns up some work some do not. You never know why. Then I began to think. I paid Google $60,000 last year! Maybe I can spend my money more wisely. I could hire an army of full time SEO guys in Pakistan with that money. I already started some targetted co reg campaigns which are working great and costing me nothing.

If you had $5000. to spend on advertising for internet marketing related sites how would you spend it? Maybe we are just being lazy spending on our money with the Google God. Most of my traffic from Google came from content not search. So who cares about their search engine? Actually Yahoo has more non search trafffic than Google. All they have are ads on a bunch of websites. Why do I need them for that?

How would you best spend a $5000 monthly budget? Ideas? (I already know about Yahoo search. Let's do better than that.)
