You know that you have a quality product on your
hands when people start using your product's name
as a verb (Google). That idea was
of course made
famous in the movie Knocked Up. When
trying to decipher the reasoning behind Google's
success, you're generally met with one response
-- 'they just do it right'.
Microsoft has been trying to penetrate that hardened
shell of market share that Google has a control
of. Doing what Microsoft typically
does best, they threw a lot of money down. $80
million worth. In its short time on the market,
has Bing been able to turn the tide at all?
Very early in Bing's release (first week), there
was an increase in market share and the web was
a buzz about Bing. Now that we've all had awhile
to cool off, where is Bing sitting now? According
to a survey conducted by Imran Kham of JP
Morgan, not too great.
While the survey suggests that people find Bing
adequate, it's not enough to steer people away from
their current search engine:
"People are happy with their current search
experience. From our standpoint, the biggest problem
that Microsoft is facing is that 62.6% of our respondents
indicated that they did not see any weaknesses in
their current search experience. As such, in order
to gain meaningful market share, we believe Microsoft
has to 1) create a markedly better product, 2) significantly
expand its distribution, or 3) invest heavily in
content development on its O&O sites. While
we expect competition in the search market to increase,
we think it will be difficult to shift search behavior
if people are completely satisfied with their current
search engine."
When thinking about what it would take to truly
challenge Google, I can't help but reference the
Coke/Pepsi fight that's been occurring
for years. At this point, what really makes Coke
better than Pepsi or vice versa? I don't think anyone
has a legitimate answer. That's what a company needs
to do to challenge Google, and I think Microsoft
has a good start. They have a brand name that people
can attach to. Many of the services they offer are
exactly the same as Google. Now, they just need
to find that one thing that can get people to switch.
For Pepsi it was the 'cool factor'.
When Pepsi hit the scene, only the squares and old
folks drank Coke. So, what will come along that
makes Google the 'Coke' of the search engine market?
Does Bing has what it takes to become the Pepsi?

Linking to a new site
I'm in the process of building a new site which will provide more specific and indepth information about a topic which I breifly cover on my main site.
I want to link from the existing site to the new site in order to give visitors the greatest value and information.
Do people think I should link to the new site immediately or wait until its been indexed or until gained some PR?
I'd eventually like the new site to rank higher than my main site because it will be more specific.

CSS issue
Hope this is the correct section to ask for help on CSS. I am now using a free template but still very new to CSS. So, hopefully someone can advice how I can resolve this and very much appreciate your kind help.
Please see this image to understand what I am saying.

If I change the margin-top to become margin-top: 40%, it will move down to the end of the text instead of having it covering those text. As some of the texts are longer and some shorter, having this setting will not work. So wondering how I can resolve this issue. Any help or suggestion is appreciated.

Safest Way to Block Google India
One of the sites that I run is a geographically targeted jobs site that does not include India. I have already blocked India through IP deny, but people can still search through Google India.
What is the safest way of blocking Google India without making Google angry? Can I instruct a robot to nofollow if it is from a certain geographical region?
Again, this is simply to keep non-targeted queries from flooding inboxes, not for any other reason.

Norton Ghost?
Hi, I have to reformat a couple of computers / laptops at home and have tons of software that I will need to reinstall. I would like to make a "ghost" of the machines after I reformat them and add the software so next time I will save a bunch of time by just going back to the ghost of the computer. What is the best and inexpensive way to do this? I use McAfee security on my computer which I would like to stay with. I was looking at Norton Ghost as a starting point...would this work with McAfee? Is this what Norton Ghost does? Is there something better out there? Can I use this on multiple computers? I was planning on putting the ghost on an external harddrive for when I need it. Thanks in advance.

Twitter to Get a Nobel Peace Prize?
If you haven’t yet heard, rumors really are going around about Twitter getting a Nobel Peace Prize. It all started when former Deputy National Security Advisor Mark Pfeifle suggested it in an interview with Fox News. He said:

“So, let us not be blind to our differences - but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved.” John F. Kennedy |
