Whenever a new concept or idea is used, there's
a tendency for it to start out in chaos. Especially
if the new idea is something popular. Which is
how I see mobile marketing at
this point.
Sure, there are some experts in the field of mobile
marketing but for many it's an area met with confusion
and ignorance. The best way to combat ignorance
is to become informed.
The MMA (Mobile Marketing Association) has published
a document that should shine light on the
best practices to use when starting a mobile marketing
campaign. It's a 134 page long PDF, so prepare
for some heavy time investment if you're serious
about studying it thoroughly.
Most of the document is divided based on the different
mobile carriers, and how standards differ based
on the carrier. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile,
and Sprint are the four companies mentioned.
In the different sections, you'll find guidlines
based on MMS, SMS, shortcode, and mobile web services.
For those who took the time to peruse the document,
what are your thoughts? Have you procrastinated
getting your mobile market campaign started? If
so -- is it because mobile marketing has a steep
learning curve?
The ideas presented in the WebProWorld newsletter
editor's note do not reflect the thoughts, and
ideas of the WebProWorld community.

What is worse, higher bounce rate or duplicate content
I am working on an ecommerce website with dynamic content. I have a product list page which is also a major landing page. I noticed when I decided to divide my product list page into 2 pages my bounce rate lowered 6% - 7% but now webmaster tools is complaining that there is duplicate content, meta keywords, title, and description on the productlist page 2. It's just basically pulling the same data from the server for productlist page 1 and 2 and the developers say it's going to be very hard to make page 2 grab different data.
What should I sacrifice, the higher bounce rate or the duplicate content?

Flash image covers a js dropdown menu
I'm a newbie when it comes to flash designs.
I created a large embedded flash image for a test page Im creating with the intention of making it my index page. I'm also using a js dropdown menu. The problem Im having is that the flash image covers the menu.
I've tried changing the z-index divs for both the flash and js, without sucess, and added {param name="wmode" value="transparent" /} which just messes up the flash background.
I'm now at a loss. Im pretty sure though, that one of you more experienced techies can help.
I'd appreciate some other suggestions for solving my problems. Unfortunately my post count doesnt allow me to post the url.

Can't set the preferred domain in the G WMT area: it says I have to verify NON-www!
Curses these subject lines with a limit. As I was trying to say: Can't set the preferred domain prefix in the G WMT area because it says I have to now verify the non-www version.
This is insane, and I'm not surprised. I was looking at the G WMT area and I see they changed the description of setting a preferred domain prefix. They used to say this was ONLY for how your pages APPEARED in the search RESULTS--cosmetic only. Now it says something different about the way they "follow a link" to your site and actually treating non-www and www IBL's to your site totally differently. We all know their dumb bot has been doing this for years, and looking at www and non-www as duplicate content, hence the reason for a 301 redirect. But this is the first I have heard about setting this once-cosmetic-only preferred domain in the WMT area for this reason.
So, even though I have a 301 redirect going to www, I thought I would set my preferred domain to the www version in the WMT area. Well, I CAN'T! I dot the area for www, and get this...

Linking of similar sites
I am the webmaster of a number of sites that all cover similar topics.
I am considering linking the main site out to one of my other sites but am not sure whether to link from home page to home page / deep page to home page / deep page to deep page to get the maximum benefit.
Does anybody have any thoughts, comments or suggestions?

What Comes Next in Social Media?
The coming of Oprah and Ashton Kutcher to Twitter brought a whole new meaning to the way the social site is perceived today and will be perceived in the future, according to social media expert Chris Brogan. He relates the situation to when the telephone came about saying that with Twitter, some will reject the service after a time, but there will still be newcomers anxious to get involved.
