WebProWorld Members,

Yesterday things got a bit political in the editor's note of the newsletter. I received numerous emails, which I thank you for. Those who agreed, and disagreed with my comments. I just want you to know that things will not get political often; I just thought it was appropriate for yesterday's topic...

Now, let's move onto 'today'. I was browsing through WebProWorld seeing what the hip-hap was, when I came across an interesting discussion. The Ethics in Social Media. If anything can arouse more debate than politics, it's ethics. I promise I'm not stirring the pot on purpose. Or am I?...bwah ha ha.

To me, the overlying sense of ethics is quite simple. We like to dilude it with grey area scenarios and what not but right is right. The kicker is the consequences of one's ethics. This line of thinking translates into the social media realm quite easily...

I'm going to blow your mind with this statement, 'conduct your social media advertising any way you want'. Trying to walk a line between spam, and 'not spam' isn't something anyone else can explain to you. As someone mentioned in the discussion I linked to, one man's spam is another's ham. If 30% of someone viewing an ad finds it useful, and 70% find it to be spam, then by all means take the 30%.

Try not to concern yourself with ethics, and more with results. It might sound wrong, but that's what it's about. However, remember that when you go forward there's always consequences for your ethical decisions. Be in social marketing or otherwise. Maybe it pays to be good.. ;)

How do we get supplier to pay for returned stocks

How do we get supplier to pay for returned stocks
It has been more than 3 years now. We tried all the ways within our means and still no result. In July 2005, WebTrends Inc asked for our stocks of their products to be returned immediately when they terminated our distribution agreement. We not only returned the stocks but also paid for all outstanding invoices. [The termination was not due to sales performance. We over achieved in 2004 . Fact is that they recruited our channel partner.

For the next 6 months, we wrote to different people at Webtrends asking after the payment. No one replied. We wrote letters to the CEO and owner of Webtrends and sent by registered mails. No one replied.

In Aug 2006, we engaged the local office of Dun & BradStreet. They asked for an initial fee for the court hearing in 2006. The case dragged on and upon my writing to the US head office on the delay in 2008, the local office wrote in to terminate their services and returned the money. No reply came from their head office. We insisted that they continued since they asked for the money and accepted it. They refused. I was very disappointed but was also very angry at oursleves for being a small guy. We lost two years...

What is the value of the HubSpot Website Grader?

I have two questions.

First, the background: One of my clients attended a Chamber of Commerce website workshop that recommended people check their rankings on the HubSpot Website Grader, and when she checked out her site she contacted me, quite dismayed to find her site only ranking at 42 out of 100.

I've now run all my clients' sites through it and found that the average of all my websites ends up a measly 32.6!!!

If this resource is a bonafide waymark to actual site SEO then I'm certainly not doing a good portion of my clients any good!

Question 1: How valuable is the HubSpot Website Grader as a ranking tool?

Question 2: All my sites on Windows servers got gigged for not having a 301 permanent redirect for the www vs. non-www address issue, but since I can't put an .htaccess file on the Windows servers I am unsure how to fix this issue other than on a page-by-page basis in the header of each page. That will be a LOT of pages. Any suggestions on doing this redirect in an easier way?

Possible to own .CA domain living in USA?

Does anyone know the specific rules for registering/owning a .CA (canada) domain? Do you only need one contact (admin, billing, etc.) with physical address in Canada, or does the registrant have to also live there?

Can anyone solve this question in C programming Language?

Write code to solve the following problem. Define a function that takes a String as a parameter and returns an integer value. The function need to loop through each character in the input string to find a value of “x”. If a value of “x” is found in the string then return the position within the string where “x” is found else return -1.
