WebProWorld Members,
|
Happy Friday everyone, I've been trolling
browsing around WebProWorld trying to find interesting
topics to discuss. While searching I actually
discovered a topic not being discussed. But probably
should be...customer service.
Many webmasters, and online shop owners greatly
overlook the aspect of customer service. It's
easy to do; with having to keep up with SEO, product
management, site design etc... However, customer
service and user's experiences on your site are
just as important as getting them there in the
first place.
If you want to look for an example of success
based on customer service then take a trip to
Newegg.com.
On the surface you'd think they've been successful
just based on their great deals on computer hardware.
If you dig deeper and study the community found
on Newegg you'll find customers raving about Newegg's
support.
They easily have the fastest shipping of any computer
hardware company that I've seen. Problems are
dealt with in a timely, and personable manner.
I've talked with numerous people who have had
nothing but positive things to say about Newegg.
Which is a large part of the reason they keep
going back. The security of knowing that a company
is looking out for its user's interest is so vital
for success.
Ok, I've provided an example of a company that
has good customer service, but what about your
site?
The first thing to remember is 'keep it
simple'. If your site is starting out
small, then you don't need to invest in an extravagant
customer service system. At most, you'll want
a forum and contact information. Forums are great
because they can provide for customer support,
and help with SEO as well. If you really want
to stay ahead of the curve, Twitter
is being talked about as a viable customer
service platform as well.
While finding a platform, don't forget what customer
service is really about...people. You can have
the fastest responses in the world, but if your
customers don't feel appreciated or cared about
then it doesn't matter. I've never bought into
the 'customer is always right' mentality, but
they should atleast have the perception that they
are.

Google Discussion Forum
Doorway pages that aren't
I'm hoping the webproworld community can help us settle a difference of opinion in our office.
We sell many product lines. We have 5 main sites. they are, for the most part not linked.
Difference one: Some feel that "cross
linking" these sites is risking a penalty from Google
and/or other SE's, some don't. What are your thoughts?
//////////////////////
We are also going on a geo-internet marketing binge. Targeted different cities, regions, countries, for different product lines. We've got a couple thousand domain names. We will probably publish sites on at least a few hundred of them.
These sites will all be unique, special care will be taken to ensure there's no duplicate content.
The CSS will probably be similiar in many of them though.
Difference two: Some of us feel that linking
to the one or more of the 5 main sites mentioned above
is risking penalty for these main sites with Google and
or other SE's.
Your thoughts?

Adwords - Is it better to pause or delete old campaigns
In the past I have usually just paused old campaigns that I no longer want to run in adwords. (same thing with keywords).
Whether they were underperforming or lost a test scenario or expired, it really didnt matter. I even do this with keywords.
However, now as some of my accounts have aged, I am getting a cluttered dashboard with many paused campaigns. I am about to clean up some of them, however I am curious how google views a paused campaign or keyword.
It is my understanding that the overall CTR of your account and campaign can effect your individual ads. Does a poorly performing paused campaign effect your overall performance?
What about a poorly performing deleted campaign or keyword?
Is there any information about this anywhere?
What are the pros and cons of pausing vs. deleting campaigns and keywords?
Thanks in advance.

Hosting Issues
No support
I have been using web at work to host my sites for some time. Until now they have been really good. But they don't provide telephone support. It hasn't been a problem as I always got answers within 24 hours. Now I don't get any answers at all.
I wanted to merge a couple of URL's on to one site but I can't get them to park the second domain. I've closed down the one site so this is now costing me sales.
I got really sick of it and thought I would just move to another host, but a couple of my control panels have disappeared and I can't access my domain details to transfer them.
I'm getting no response at all. What can I do?

Don't Assume Anymore: Select Keywords That Work!
Do your keywords support your site? Unfortunately, the answer is no for many people choosing keywords for search engine optimization purposes. According to Mike Murray of Fathom SEO, people depend too much on tools such as Keyword Discovery, Google Keyword Tool, and SpyFu.
