WebProWorld Members,
For today's discussion, I have one simple question
for you, 'How big can the cloud get?'
I'm not going to leave you with something that cryptic,
so let me explain. Earlier this week at GDC 09 (Game
Developers Conference), a new video game service
was announced: OnLive. It has been receiving a lot
of buzz online, and for good reason.
A short summary is that OnLive is a streaming service
that allows gamers to play a wide array of titles.
I'm not talking flash based games, but standard
games that release in retail. All someone needs
is the browser plug-in, and a fast enough connection
to utilize the service. If you want to know more
details, I did a write-up
for it.
When cloud computing, and SaaS first took off there
was a large amount of applications that followed.
I believe with OnLive we could be seeing a second
revolution of sorts. If they're able to be successful
and stream as much data as it takes to run a game,
I think some inspiration could hit other companies.
That is 'if' they succeed.
Earlier I asked how big the cloud can get. I'll
provide my own answer, and say it has the potential
to block the sun. However, potential doesn't always
translate to reality. We have much work to do with
increasing bandwidth, and connection speeds before
our heads can get too big. Where do you
see the cloud going?
Attention WebProWorld: I wanted
to let everyone know that one of our fellow members,
ctabuk,
will make an appearance on BBC Radio. He will be
discussing his upcoming book, 'The
Adventures of Michael Fane' with Lincolnshire
host, Melvyn Prior. The interview will be next Thursday
(Apr 2nd) at 3PM GMT. Here's
a link to Lincolnshire radio, so show your support
and listen in. Might hear something about WPW..

2) 301 redirect each page to correct page on new domain. (telling google it's permanent and to pass pr.
3) Contact the thousands of pages linking to me and request domain name change.
4) Pray
Anything missing?

Looking at Swap Shop Software
Hi all
A client of mine would like to set up a swap shop on his current website. Basically he wants an area of his website where people with similar products (in the craft industry) can post items they wish to swap and if interested they can contact the poster with an offer.
my question is: is there a software that can do all this or does it have to be developed from scratch?
Any help as always will be gratefully received.

Marketing Strategies Discussion Forum
First Time Ever
For the first time ever I'm going to have to beat the streets and use traditional marketing techniques to sell a product.
We've made a new product targeting small to medium used auto dealers. Ones that want an online auto inventory, but were turned off by the price of existing products in the market.
The problem with most of the existing application that allow an auto dealer are:
1- They do too much, making them more expensive and harder to use.
2- There's no training available for under-confident non-tech dealers.
Our application is easy as e-mail, seriously.
And the cost is only a few thousand. No we won't continually
keep charging per car or anything like that. We also will
do on site training (it's to locally marketed to 6 counties
in Florida) and even add your first round of cars. Florida
Auto Sales (FastWay)
I'm just too short on money to wait for interest to come to me.
Question is,
Besides cold calling dealers who don't have a web site, how else does traditional marketing (when broke) actually work?
Got any ideas for pushing this product?

Internet Explorer 8 Cross Site Scripting Filter
Playing around with my new install of Internet Explorer 8, I got the following message in the information bar that shows page-related security alerts...
"Internet Explorer has modified this page to help
prevent cross-site scripting. Click here for more information..."
As usual, clicking the information bar only opened a generic help window, with no information about what triggered the filter, or how to correct whatever problem was detected. This tells me that if such a message is encountered on one of my sites, tracking down the issue will be difficult to say the least.
I have already encountered sites that have triggered the
filter. Most of these issues were related to advertising
code. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to diagnose
these issues. A developer needs to install Microsoft's
Compatibility Viewer to view the event log generated by
the filter. This application can be downloaded from: Microsoft
Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.0
Information on the filter can be found here: IEBlog
