“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” - Maria Robinson

I always find that a project, or article, or anything is always most challenging at the beginning. Especially when the beginning is something involving change.

Since we are at the beginning, an introduction is only fitting. My name is John Vinson, but my nickname and what I usually write out as a username is JohnnyV. I've had the nickname since middle school; it stuck so it's what I've gone by for awhile now. You can call me whatever you like, if you wish to write to me. Just make sure I know it's addressed to me.

I enjoy an assortment of hobbies, and activities. My one true love is video games. I received a NES for my fifth Christmas and haven't looked back since. My experience in the internet marketing world might be young compared to some, but have found success in the short time I've been involved. I write for an assortment of eBusiness sites, and enjoy doing so. If I'm writing (about anything), I'm generally happy.

As you can see, I'm the new writer for the WebProWorld newsletter. I'm glad to be here, to hopefully help enlighten your day while offering advice about SEO, website design, or anything you might want to hear. My inbox is always open to questions, or suggestions.

As Maria Robinson said, we only get one beginning and I hope this is a great one.

Internet Explorer 8 Released

Internet Explorer 8 Released
So, its official. Internet Explorer 8 was released over the weekend. Several sites I have worked with are already scrambling to make sure they are fully compatible (there are some changes between IE 8 RC and the final version apparently) or at least displaying properly in the new, "more standards compliant" browser.

What issues have you seen so far? Have you gotten your site working, or are you taking the easy way out and forcing IE8 to run in compatibility mode?

I have noticed that microsoft.com will only run in compatibility mode.

Site for Review http://www.rockerierecords.com

Hey all, just completed my own website for my recording studio, Rockerie Records. Just looking for insight on the usual suspects...usabilty, appearance, etc. Any thoughts/input would be appreciated. Two things: 1. I know some people don't dig white text on a black background. It's staying the way it is, so don't bother. 2. Flash isn't exactly my specialty, so I'm still trying to improve the audio player. Thanks!

Promoting internal pages or promoting only the homepage?

Hi,

Check out this fictional SEO case:
I want to promote my 12 pages site in 10 keywords. Some pages focus on specific keywords (title, heading, text, etc').

I want to promote my site with text anchors.
What do you think is the best technique to adopt:

1. promote (link to) only my homepage (http: // www . example . com)
2. Match each keyword for specific page and promote my internal pages (http: // www . example . com / service . php)

Web Classified Poaching - Web Ethics Question

I have a business for sale website and have a question on marketing ethics from a competitor. My competitor is contacting my individual listings of business for sale with the offer of listing their ads on his website.

It is annoying, but I am wondering how others deal with this type of behavior?

It's web poaching, interested to hear some views on this.

Help! Can't get sitetoolbox to respond

I use sitemeter on all my sites and years ago I signed up for a premium account at $40 a month for additional services. Recently I dropped several of the sites I managed so I tried to log into www.sitemeter.sitetoolbox.com to cancel my account only to find my login did not work. They will not respond and my problem tickets go unresolved. There seems to be a great mystery here. Long story short, I have spent days doing research for contact info on this company. Sitemeter claims they are no longer associated with sitetoolbox even though the website sports the sitemeter 2009 copyright. Eboz.com was once involved somehow and that url now forwards to web.com. The folks at web.com don't claim to know eboz, sitetoolbox, or sitemeter as clients.

The monthly cc charge says it is from sitetoolbox.com and the phone number no longer works. I put a flag on my cc and if they do not follow through to bounce the charge I will be forced to cancel my cc altogether. No big loss but sure is an aggravation.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with these mysteriously unreachable folks. Meema
