WebProWorld Members,

We've got two new videos for you all to watch today. Mike McDonald and Rich Ord (our CEO) talked to Jeremiah Andrick from MSN Live Search. He came for a visit here at our office in Kentucky. There are a couple more videos with Jeremiah coming soon so be sure to check back! :)

Our featured post today comes from mryang who wants to know your thoughts on the importance of having valid html pages in the search engines. He says he has lots of first page positions for chosen keywords in Google but very little of his site will validate in WC3 checking with many errors. He also says he has just begun the long and tedious task of eliminating all these errors and making his site compliant and valid while also converting it to a css driven site. Is he wasting his time?? Click here!

As for the remaining three posts, the first is having duplicate content issues. The second is moving to faceted navigation. And the third has a couple questions about the new search engine Cuil.

Css And Validation WC3 Pages For SEO
Css And Validation WC3 Pages For SEO

What are your thoughts on the importance of having valid html pages in the search engines? Currently I have lots of first page positions for my chosen keywords in google but very little of my site will validate in WC3 checking with many errors... this is the case also for alot of my competitors.

I have just begun the long and tedious task of eliminating all these errors and making my site compliant and valid while also converting it to a css driven site - do you think this is going to give me much benefit or am I wasting my time??

Does this importance weight more in some search engines over others? We do well in google at the moment and have a site that has been around for over 8 years but we do very badly in MSN for example...

Site for Review http://www.selfdefenseproductsflorida.com/

My question is, would you be turned off from buying from a website that does not look like a 'store' and continue on to other websites for your shopping with a more store appearance?

Duplicate Content Issues

I've been working on a clients site that has two sections residential and commercial. The site splits from the home page into 2 sub folders with slightly different branding for the residential and commercial sides. I asked the client if they had any duplicate content issues between the two areas, which they assured me they didn't. Now i find that some of the content is very similar and there are only minor differences between the two.

Each side of the site is written to target to very different sectors; there are 2 about us pages, 2 contact pages, etc... These need to be separate. I don't have time to re-write any pages which are duplicated and the client isn't the most willing to provide me with content.

Moving To Faceted Navigation

We are going to redo the navigation on our site to be faceted (or filtered) navigation. Currently we have about 500 category pages. After the first few tests I have run with the new navigation, we could be looking at tens of thousands of category pages.

The URL would look something like the following: http://www.somesite.com/products.htm...2&pricerange=3
There are a few concerns that we have.

Cuil Penalizing Adsense Advertisers?

Of course the first thing I did is search Cuil on my important keywords for my own long-standing, relevant website. Horrors, my site is nowhere to be found. Even unknown sites that reprint my articles appear before me. Other sites appear three times in their results.

Now my site is unspammy, useful and real, so has no real reason to be banned or penalised by Cuil. Except for possibly the fact it uses Google's Adsense for a major part of it's revenue stream. But is also appears Adwords clients do well in the Cuils SERP's.
