WebProWorld Members,

One of my co-workers sent me this illusion today and I thought I would share. Pretty neat huh? Have you ran across anything like this on the web? Send me the link and I might post it here in World for everyone to see. On the same subject, here is another page full of optical illusions. I particularly like the ones that look like the picture is moving. Enjoy! :)

Our featured post today comes from ozzie_jim who wants some advice on linking. What are the best practices? Are inbound links still important? Should he still link out to quality sites that don't link back or should he delete their links? Should he use any "no follow" rules on outbound links? Will having target = _blank on outbound links be regarded as bad by google? Click here if you know!

As for the remaining three posts, the first has some questions about the remove URL tool. The second is switching to a different file extension. And the third has a question about port forwarding.

Can I please get some current advice on linking:

Are inbound links still important?

Do I still link out to quality sites that don't link back or should I delete their links?

Do I use any "no follow" rules on outbound links?

Will having target = _blank on outbound links be regarded as bad by google?

Remove URL Tool - Moving Domain

We have recently moved the content of one domain onto another. We have had 301 redirects in place now for 2 week.

Initially Google seemed to be doing a good job of dropping URL's from the old domain from its index and re indexing the new pages. Now it seems to be stuck about half way through.

My question is, in my circumstances, is it a good idea to use the 'remove URL' tool to remove the whole domain, or will this cause Google to devalue the 301 redirects put in place?

Switching To Different File Extensions

I'm moving my site Visit Natal Brasil from Windows IIS server to Linux, to host it on the wordpress platform

That means I loose all my old indexed urls in search engines (which end with .asp) to switch to the new ones (wordpress permalinks).

What are the necessary steps to make to make this transition as smooth as possible?

Port-Forwarding - Why?

Hi all. Quick question: why is it that when surfing the net, my router knows where to forward my data (ie, to my computer), but when running a game server or FTP server, or using BitTorrent, it DOESN'T, and I have to forward my ports?

I know this must be a deep technical issue that gets into the coding aspects of TCP/IP or routers, but it drives me nuts.

Is there some app that will cure this for me? Look how many ports I have to maintain: Sad ...and whenever my network IP gets changed (often), I have to get in there, and fix all the numbers. (example: this morning, my network decided that my computer should go from .102 to .104... Yay.)
