WebProWorld Members,

For those of you that didn't have to work Monday, isn't your week all thrown off? I keep thinking today is Tuesday. But, of course it is Wednesday which means only a couple more days until the weekend. I will be busy this weekend packing for Seattle, where me and the other WebProNews crew members will be attending SMX Advanced. This one only last a couple days but I am looking forward to it because I know several other people attending. Well, enough of my rambling, here is today's update... :)

Our featured post today comes from wige, who wants to know how to handle mobile traffic. Wige is starting to develop a mobile version of his main site, and is curious what methods people are using, and what issues you may have encountered with different approaches. He has some methods he is considering but wants your opinion first! Click here!

As for the remaining three post, the first wants to know the rules about having copyrighted music on your website. The second has an external swf preloader issue. And the third has a database question.

How Do You Handle Mobile Traffic?
How Do You Handle Mobile Traffic?

How do you detect/respond to traffic from handheld browsers (cell phones, PDAs, etc.) on your site?

I am starting to develop a mobile version of my main site, and I am curious what methods people are using, and what issues you may have encountered with different approaches.

A few of the approaches I have been considering:

• Using a handheld style sheet that simply adapts the current page to be more usable on a smaller screen.

Copyrighted Music On Your Website

Now I know there are a lot of reasons why you should not have music on your web site.

But if you had a client who absolutely insisted that you have a Beatles tune play in the background, what would be the best way of ensuring I stay on the right side of the law?

I am not sure I would a speedy response if I emailed beatles.com (even if there were any contact information there).

External SWF Preloader Issue

I'm creating a new flash site, to make it load faster, I decided to create diffrent movie clips and call them in onClick event.

But I have a problem, when loading an external swf file it should display the preloader first (of external swf).

Very Simple - when site loads the main preloader should appear for the main site, then when i clik on any buttons on main swf, the external swf should load with its own preloader.

Database Discussion Forum
PHP, MySQL, A Form And 1 Too Many Values!

I am working on a database made up of 5 tables:

1. list of service providers
2. top level service categories (level a - $grandparent)
3. middle level service categories (level b - $parent)
4. bottom level service categories (level c - $services)
5. main table with look up references

I want users to be able to select a search option from a drop down list which shows all 3 service levels correctly tiered, and I have successfully created the code for doing so.
