Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is now in theaters. If you are a big fan of the previous trilogy go check this one out. Many of you might remember Short Round from "The Temple of Doom", well rumors say that the real crystal skull is the remains of his head. Just kidding... Now back to WPW.

Our featured post today comes from chrisJumbo. He didn't know he could change the default URL in Wordpress. The blog is almost a year old and for the whole time my blog address has been indexed with no www. He wonders if he should change his URL now to default with the www or just leave it since it has been quite a while?

As for the remaining posts, the first asks what are the programming techniques to make a website nice? The next post discusses his site's SERP on Google is dancing all over. Our final post today is worried about keyword cannibalism, where their linking potential is breaking in two?

'Newbie' Error

 'Newbie' Error
I wish I could actually just chalk it up to that. But, until reading a post somewhere (and I don't remember where), I didn't know I could change the default URL in Wordpress. Duh!

So the question is:

The blog is almost a year old. For that whole time my blog address has been indexed as http:// jumbocdinvestments.com / cd_rates_blog (no www). Everytime I left a comment somewhere I used the non-www version since that is how WordPress had it defaulted.

Do I change it now to default with the www or just leave it since it has been quite a while?

I've learned for the next time though.

SERP and Google

I have been working on SEO for a few of our websites over the years and have had great sucess. One of our websites has been on the first page of Google for some very competitive keywords for a long time. For our best keyword we have been in the number 3 spot on Google for many many months.

Lately, I have seen it drop to 5 or 6 and then back up to 3 or 4 but it keeps changing. Then, 2 days ago it went to 8, then back to 6, now it is at number 7 spot. I have never seen so much fluctuation ever. It changes daily. Is there something going on with Google that I am not aware of?

This site is number three for allinanchor for this keyword. It should be higher than number 7.

Keyword Cannibalization

I'd like to hear the views of more people on a problem i have on our travel site. In an effort to increase our rankings on a keyphrase i.e city+hotels, my superior has created a new page on the subject even though we already have an existing page which is 14 yrs old on that topic. The old page enjoys healthy rankings for variations of the phrase we are optimising for but not the main very competitive one.

I believe by creating more than one page, we are spamming and competing with ourselves for that particular phrase. What worries me more is that a link has now been placed on our homepage for city+hotels going to URL A , whilst underneath is another of the same keyword link directed to URL B. Surely there is an issue with link splitting also, where we are breaking the linking potential in two. I would appreciate your views.
