WebProWorld Members,
Can you believe it's May already?! It turned out to be a pretty good day as far as the weather goes. A couple days ago, I had to turn my heat on. Today, I will either be opening the windows or turning the air on when I get home. Crazy Kentucky weather! I'm ready for the cold days to be a thing of the past... at least until November. :)
Our featured post today comes from dvdstar, who setup a .com domain but wonders if that will hinder the sites chances of ranking well for keywords in the UK? Assuming that the target audience will remain uk only, should the domain be changed to .co.uk? Click here to tell us what you think!
As for the remaining three post, the first wonders how many Google penalties there are. The second needs help with CMS choices. And the third has a question about subfolders.

Should I Have Used .co.uk?
I recently setup a .com domain and the site has been operational for about a month now (Dancing Lessons -). The site is for my sister and is related to dancing lessons, tutorials, videos etc. The initial target audience will be based in the UK, but long term she might use her contacts to expand outside of the uk. Therefore I set the site up as a .com, partly so that the site "feels" more global.
My question is, will this hinder the sites chances of ranking well for keywords in the UK? I notice if I search for "usb flash drives" on google.com, 95% of results are .co.uk and only a few big name such as dabs.com appear in the listings.
If we assume that the target audience will remain uk only, should I change the domain to .co.uk ??

Penalties: How Many Are There?
I know of the -30 penalty and that a site can be exluded completely from Google's index, but the -950 penalty that I found today was new to me. It seems like an over optimization penalty. To sum up, here are the penalties known to me:- -30
- -950
- Index exclusion.
Any other?
-950 penalty Recent External Link: Google's 950 Penalty - Part 13

Graphics & Design Discussion Forum CMS Choices
I have been asked to help launch a new community website. I have the time to launch, but not maintain. The operators of this site are nearly computer illiterate, but must be able to do their own updates.
I feel that maybe a CMS may be the answer, but I have never worked with one.
I know this is like asking "What kind of car should I buy?" How many responses are there? Is CMS where we're headed here? And moreover, what CMS system, once set up would be the easiest (I can't stress that word too much) for them to deal with?

Search Engine Optimization Forum Subfolders Less Important Regardless Of Distance From Homepage?
I am in the process of expanding our site to include local regions.
I am wondering whether or not it matters how many levels deep a URL appears, or if it even matters?
Does Google, Yahoo, and the rest consider site.com/folder1/folder2/file.html to be "less important" than site.com/folder1/file.html, REGARDLESS of distance from the home page? In other words, I am trying to figure out whether I should use something like site.com/region/city/file.html or site.com/file-region-city.html.
Which is better for SEO positioning? Does it matter?
