Finally, the weather is starting to change here... yesterday and today have been in the 70's. Of course, in Kentucky it can be 70 one day and 30 the next, I'm hoping that's not going to happen tho. I am so ready for the summertime! Summer means swimming and fishing a lot for me. I can't wait! Hopefully it's warm where you live too! :)

Our featured post today comes from nametaginc, who wants to know the best way to update a site while minimizing downtime. nametaginc wonders if the method they are going about to make the changes is the best way to do so. To read the rest of the post and see if you can help, click here!

As for the remaining three post, the first has a couple questions about making changes for SEO. The second wants info on titles and descriptions. And the third needs advice on XML sitemaps.

Update A Site While Minimizing Downtime?
The Best Way To Update A Site While Minimizing Downtime?

The web team at my company has been and is continuing to work on revising our website. The revision is going to be a major one and as such, we aren't really able to update/revise the site in bits and pieces.

We are creating the new site using CSS: we plan on completing all the changes and then will upload all the pages and revisions at once. Due to the infrastructure changes of the new site, some of the pages that are on the current/old site will need to remain on the new site but will be 301 redirected until the SEs are aware and have indexed the changes.

From what I've read a change of this scale will draw the attention of the SEs. My question is...is the method we are going about to make the changes the best way to do so?

Making Changes For SEO

I would like a little input on how long to wait between changes to a page for SEO purposes. I tend to give things at least a month between tweeks when trying to improve SERPs for any given page / keyword but I have seen others going at it weekly. I think one month can give a good indication of trend but perhaps I should wait longer or not so long?

What has been your experience?

SE Results - Titles and Descriptions

I think page titles and descriptions carry a lot of weight and are the gateway to determining page content (what the page is about).

After a recent title/description change on one of my pages Google picked up the new description on the search results but not the new title.

I'd imagine the new title would be picked up eventually but it seems odd to pick up one without the other during an update. This particular page gets a gbot visit frequently.

What To Include In XML Sitemaps?

Should every single page be included in an XML sitemap? I had always thought it's good to limit the sitemap to relevant content.

Does it help/hurt to include pages like 'contact us' and 'privacy policy'?
