It is almost time for SES NY 2008, and as always WebProNews will be there covering the conference with articles, pictures, and videos. While you're waiting for conference converage to begin next week, take a look at our latest video, Web On! Apply Directly to Your Site! Hopefully you'll get a little laugh out of it. :)

Our featured post today comes from swampdeer, who has a strict filtering problem. Is there anyway of letting Google know that the site is safe and for it to be re-included in the SERPS for people using strict filtering? To read more details and see if you can help, click here!

As for the remaining three post, the first has a question about putting text behind images. The second needs help with replacing a noindex page. And the third wants some info on domains that have a dash.

Strict Filtering Problem
Strict Filtering Problem

I've recently noticed that a site I work on is being filtered out of the search results when strict filtering is applied to my Google preferences. The site sells riding boots, saddles, horse tack and shooting jackets.

We've had problems in the past with starting PPC campaigns because the text on the page throws up warnings which have to be over-ridden manually by somebody at Google, Yahoo and MSN. The people I spoke to suggested it was probably the word 'shooting' which is causing the problem.

My question is, is there anyway of letting Google know that the site is safe and for it to be re-included in the SERPS for people using strict filtering.

Putting Text Behind Images

I have a home page that I don't want to put text on so people will focus on the picture, but I want search ingines to pick it up and I know text is good for that.

If I put text behind the image so viewers don't see it, will search engines still pick it up?

Replacing a NoIndex page?

When you search for my company name, we come up 1st and 2nd in Google. All good, you might think, but the 2nd result that comes up is our terms and conditions which, whilst reassuring for customers, would probably be more effective as a sales page.

Now, I am considering putting a noindex, nofollow, noarchive tag on the page, which I believe should stop the terms and conditions coming up in the results. However, there is also a very similarly named site which is unrelated to us but which we don't want our customers to confuse us with. Basically, we don't want them to take 2nd position.

Domains With A Dash

Do domains with a dash appear to be cheesy or is it something a lot of people are going too because the name my be taken and a way to get it is to add a dash to it.

I know in terms of seo it does not hurt or help, just with people remembering the domain might be an issue?

What is your thought on that?
