Due to the commercial nature of the web and self interest of marketers it is difficult to get marketers to come together on a solution to help people out.
Search engines are not prone to promote or suggest an SEO service because they lose ad revenue and be held liable when the SEO firm does a bad job. SEO organizations do not work due to the power struggles between various marketers. This site was designed to help consumers learn about SEO without being attached to any centralized body: http://www.honestseo.com/

SEO by itself is nothing, you just get the hits not the visits or conversion.
Todays website should have an integrated approach. An eyecatching design with good content, will make all the conversion? What do you think? Sangeeta Wen Marketing Manager Last edited by mjtaylor; 12-19-2007 at 01:37 PM. Reason: link not |

I agree with you to a point. You may have the best looking site on the web but if no one can find you, who cares? When one thinks of SEO what does one think of? keywords, link popularity, keyword density? SEO has to be in your mind from concept to final outcome. Content to the visitor is not the same as content to what the bot can see and in what order the bot sees it. My thinking is SEO for the most part is in the hands of the site builder. If one builds a site and the first 100 lines are java script and the first real content is over half way down the page as the bot sees, it is a waste as well. Eyecatching design important, integrated approach even more important, building a page with SEO in mind from the very concept to final outcome - priceless.. Design is one of the factor in making the site popular in the SEs.
The more the site is attractive the more visitor you can get. But the question is how you can make your site popular? There are billions of sites all over the net and the way to make your site popular is through SEO knowledge.

The search engines do not care one single iota if your website looks like a million bucks or ten bucks. They care about providing relevent content to their users. |

Design is very much needed to represent your company but it has nothing to do to make your website popular, well you can generate clients through words of mouth, but not through SEs. Search Engines after the contents of your website, not your design.
