Default Help Needed: Web content writing, various topics

I am looking for an efficient freelance writer to do web content writing for me.

The first task will be to create about 50 pages of creative text (articles), let's say 350-400 words per page. Site topic is business - world economy - financial. If this initial task goes ok, more work will follow, on various other topics as well, like tourism, health, new technology etc. The writer must be able to control keyword density and perform small density adjustments if its the case.

The work must be all original, and I retain all the rights. I am prepared to offer up to $5 per page, and a further ongoing flow of work for the right person. PM if interested.

"Up to $5 per page???". That is less than United States minimum hourly wage. Are you looking for slave labor?

At $5/page i hate to think of the kind of quality you are going to get.

Default writing

During a time when people are enduring lay-offs and lack of new job opportunities, a writing job at home may just be the ticket to make sure that the heat stays on for another month and the babies don't starve. IF it is a legitimate offer, it could be the salvation of one person. We are glad that others feel more fortunate.

Those are exploitation wages! At "up to $5 per page", how many pages would have to be created to pay a heating bill and food for children. Do the math and get real!

In the USA and Europe we have fought hard for labour rights. To say its okay to pay people a poor wage to keep them above the poverty line is exploitation in its purest form. You have surely created a paradox - people are paid a low wage and so can barely afford to pay for heating and food, people can barely afford to pay for heating or food so they take a low paid job????
It seems that you are trying to reimplement a system of perpetual poverty.

Very well said. There is another common absurdity here: they search for someone smart enough to make such work, but stupid enough to accept that payment (let´s put necessities aside).

I think this person may have a chance hiring someone overseas, from a country where $5 dollars value at least 2.5 times more in terms of real value. Like in my country. However, I doubt the efficiency of the writing (another language) and for sure the writer even when accepting will know that the wages are internationally very low. A housekeeper gets $8 an hour.

Btw, there is nothing personal in my comment, but a general observation of the matter.

Hope one day things will get a little even for everyone. Ciao.

Default Your Bid Brings Us All Down

While I appreciate seeing postings for freelance writers, and have joined more than one organization to seek assignments, it is alarming to see the number of people who really don't seem to know that $5/page is an absurd offer.

Unfortunately, I see people (yes, even in the U.S.), accepting low rates, failing to complete the assignment or unable to write with any degree of skill. The result is that it brings the entire writing community down.

The solution as far as I'm concerned is to collectively agree never to bid this low on a project, and to kindly but firmly let the employer know it is unacceptable. I have to believe they simply don't know what they are doing.

would be nice to hear emils response. Maybe it was a typo, maybe they meant $50.

There is one forum - which shall remain nameless - where a writer from another country offers his services for $2 per article. NOT a typo! He says he uses spellcheck! Many members jumped for joy and were fighting over "who is next in line". I have no clue as to his research and writing skills. However, when I had the audacity to comment - as so many of us have done here - several of the members attacked me. I was the only member on this large forum to question his skills.

I had previously placed an ad there for writing assignments and did get a number of them thru that forum. However, I no longer post there for several reasons. Firstly, they have no statement prohibiting personal attacks between members. Secondly, the forum owner "refuses to get involved." And thirdly, a number of forum members are downright nasty and hostile.

I see that part of this post has turned into a Rant but I needed to vent my frustrations in a civilized forum.

Cheers,

This is getting interesting ... while a couple of writers have accepted, most others are criticising the offer. To make things clearer for myself (well, I'm not from US) what should be the reasonable price for such an article, say, if I want to put a similar offer, how much should I offer which should be a good price for the writer and won't chop my head off as well.

Thanks for the reply.
Regards

It very much on the depth and length of article you require. I usually charge around $30-50 per article, including research. I personally write only in English (both US and UK) but I imagine that translations of articles will cost more.

I agree with jkomp on article prices relative to expertise and time spent on research and writing.
