Default Can this program be done?

I am a website designer that uses a wysiwyg editor to develop my webpages. Its a pretty good editor and it provides pretty much everything that i nead, except that it is missing an input for a few of the major meta tags, most importantly the description meta tag. This means every time i update a page i not only have to update and upload it, but i then also have to go into the html and add some of the meta tags by hand. This gets time consuming on a large site.

I was wondering what it would cost to have a program written that would read a line of text from a note pad or excel sheat, then enter it into the appropriate page of html, then go to the next line and enter that in the appropriate page. If this is doable please contact me or respond with a quote. Thank you

Try Web CEO 5. It can add meta tags to your whole site's pages at once or you can fine tune every single page. On that you get the benefit of proven SEO software. Furthermore, you can do this for free! Their free version covers all that you would want to simplify that 'tagging' task. Check it out at the WebCEO website.

Anything can be done, but how is dependant on many factors i.e server technology being the main. If you can include some details it may prevent people guessing just how long the piece of string is.

Default Program

Which program do you use? If it's Dreamweaver, you can have a plug in built to add the Meta tags to your site. For example, I have a plug in that has all the Dublin tags for extra listing data.

To answer your question, yes the program can be written to open a directory of HTML pages (and sub directories), insert a tag and save the file.

Cost would vary based on the exact structure and requirements but a simple tool that would allow you to input a fixed tag into hundreds of documents automatically would be around $1,000.

If you're looking for a lower cost solution, I'd suggest you look at a Meta program for your OS (windows and Mac both have them) or invest some time in learning "Regular Expressions" as a method to search and replace in multiple documents.
