Default Traffic Surge after Listing new products?

Last week I added some new products to my site after not listing for 2-3 weeks. I went to webmaster tools and noticed that my traffic had jumped 100% the following day. Is that a random occurence having to do with nothing in particular or what relationshipi is there between new content and new traffic. Unfortunately the traffic went back to a normal rate the following day. Any ideas?

When google finds a site that has been dead for a while that recently updated it usually will give the site a boost. Keep updating the site regularly and hopefully the traffic will keep increasing. Of course it could be just a lucky jump for example when I created my site make money free for the first month I was on the first page for make money free and make money online. After about three weeks my site dropped down into the thousands I have been slowly rebuliding ever since. It could have just been a luck bump by google.

This is why it is important to use good analytic software such as Google Analytics. Then you can pinpoint exactly where the surge occurred. It could be that you temporarily improved rankings or the traffic could've come from somewhere else.

Some analytic programs will count your own IP as traffic, and so you might have been seeing your uploads as traffic.

But an analysis of your web logs should reveal if that is the case or not. I've seen RSS feeds get picked up as traffic, and of course all the search engines have spiders too...

The web is a funny place. If your link lands in the right place, you can get surges like that periodically.

I think that you must consider if the surge of visitors consisted of new unique IP addresses. How did people know you uploaded new products?
