Question Need Advice About an International Domain Name

Hello,

One of my clients wants to have a web site in Spanish for the Mexican market.
He asked me if he should register a site.com.mx or site.com.

To be honest I have no idea what's the best choice.
Can someone suggest which is the best choice?

Jesse

I never had problems having sites in some other language with a com extension. The domain name should include local language keywords. If it's a trademark well, register it. The content is still in local language and Google will catch it.

In Google Webmaster Tools you can always set the region of the domain.

Good luck

Well... if he only wants to promote his business in the mexican market then the .com.mx would be fine, but if he is considering to expand his business in the future for the international market then the .com option would be better. That's something that you would have to ask him about.

You can make him understand the .com option works good for any website around the world.

If they want traffic from Mexico in particular the .com.mx might give them a bit of help with geotargeting.

I would personally go with the dotcom as ive never had any problems getting listed in search engines of any language for it. just remember to set your geotargeting!

I agree with 3dmagicaldesigns. I have done sites strictly for the Mexican market, and for the Mexican and US market. Unless his Market is going to be nothing but consumer level, and only in Mexico, I think the standard .com is his best choice. I say that because many Mexican companies use .com rather than .com.mx, and because there are a great many people in the US market, looking for products in Mexico, for friends, family or companies located there. I think they'll get the best exposure with the .com, and give up nothing.
