Why are you buying a forum? Do you mean that you're buying an existing forum that's already up and running? Or you just want to start a forum?

Decide why you want to buy that forum....do you just have a passion for that topic or do you just want to try to make money from it? Ideally it would be both, but if you are trying to make money, you should ask how much money the forum currently makes. At a minimum most site owners would want at least a year's income to sell, but many would want up to 3 years or more of current level income. Forums are usually not the most profitable type of website. Have you considered starting a blog or two instead?

If you are going ahead with the purchase you will likely get a zip file of the forum's website directory. Also depending on the setup, they usually need to give you a database to install too. Best case scenario is the guy has it hosted on its own account and he lets you transfer that to your name, but it is rarely that easy. With luck the current owner will help you get it all transferred and setup. Also he would have to transfer ownership of the actual domain name too.

What's the purpose of buying a forum? Are you buying to promote another website, or want a revenue from the advertisment on the forums?
