Default Focus on Inbound Links

Too often nowadays I see guys spending way too much time focusing on on-page factors. By this I mean, worry about your title tags, meta-tags, keyword density, anchor text and so on.

Don't get me wrong, on-page factors are important. But even more important nowadays are the sites that link to you. Call it your circle of friends. The less sites that link to you, the harder it will be to rank on search engines.

And don't just get any site to link to you. Google will look at your "circle of friends" and if they consist of spammy sites like article directories, FFA link sites, and so on, then it aint gonna do you a whole lot of good.

So there.

I agree completely. The quality and quantity of your backlinks counts for much more than any onpage factors. You can get the lousiest website ranked well if you can build good enough links.

And its hard because you can exercise 100% direct control over the on page factors and have limited control over the content on other websites and everyone wants traffic TODAY!

I completely agree with zonked. For now "good" links are a way to get noticed by the crawlers. Links are going to lose a little status within the next 6 months though with the new algoritiums. But, that's not today, and today you need traffic.

These are some good points. But I still say the best SEO work you can do is an on-page factor: quality content. The idea being that if you have enough, the links will build themselves.

Building good inbounds links is easily the hardest thing to do in terms of SEO. It takes legwork. One trick I've do is join social networking sites and join groups that discuss my niche. I add to the conversation and after a while start asking for links. My best links have come from this practice. I never would have gotten them had I just cold called via email.

I am also agreed with u. Both factors are important. when we start seo of new registered web site then on page optimization and web site analysis is important.
After completion of on page SEO we start working of Off Page SEO which means Links building. According to my point of view we consider the site relevancy and current position (PR) of the sites.

Because inbound links from relevant sites with good page rank are so helpful.

I've always seen that links as the most important thing. As long as you have done good keyword research and got those title tags sorted you should be focusing on getting good links to your sites with good link text.

Saying that I've spent the last few months working on internal linking structure and I think it has helped me no end.

I'd say that both on page factors and off page factors are very important in SEO... it all starts with on page of course and then building links for your websites. It is true that there are lots of site owners out there that tend to overdo their on page optimization but there are also lots of link builders and advertisers out there who does the same thing and i think we know them as spammers.

Its absolutely right! Inbound links are the main fact. we can't avoid on-page factors also like meta, keyword density and content.

Getting quality links is more important than the quantity of links.
