Default Site and Search Engine description -

I feel like the fly stuck in the spider web yelling “help me”. I hope I am not repeating a question or overlooking an answer already posted.

Here is the situation – I have built a site and submitted it to search engines and all of that fun stuff. The site is listed in the search engines.

Here is the problem / questions – The site description listed is nothing like the meta description or the opening paragraph. The site description on Google is:
“... Online Shopper @ 2004 by Shopping Mega Mall by TnTMunsey. This template is
designed by cotterjerry@eircom.net and supplied by WebDesignHelper.co.uk. ...”

If anyone has a spare minute and can explain what I am doing wrong I would be very grateful!

The site in question can be found at:
http://ezine.tntmunsey.com

Thanks!

Tim

Hi Tim,

it may be that these are just preliminary results that are being returned, it's quite possible that the site hasn't been fully indexed yet. You didn't actually say how recently you uploaded the site?

Whilst there isn't anything essentially wrong with your site's title or its meta description... they do strike me as being overly generic terms, and not particularly helpful in building strong keyword phrases. The image ALT attribute pointing to intuitivmedia in block capitals seemed a bit much to me as well. I would substitute that with an original graphic and add your keywords to the alt description.

I would say just be patient, and monitor Googlebot's visits... if the SERPS do not improve in the next two weeks or so, try re-submitting and re-jigging your content slightly.

Hope that helps,

Paul

PS. I'm also moving this post to Search Engine Discussion

Google specifically snippets content off the page being ranked by the users' query.

So if for example: you searched on your "business name" and the only reference to the page (this is based both on "on-page content" and "off-page links") is say your copright statement... Google will snippet and few words before and after the reference that caused you to rank on e.g. "business name".

While this can be "unappealing" in some instances you can edit your page to help Google snippet better.

Google has a perference to snippet the first occurance of the query of the page there adding another more suitable phrase closer to the top would likely be used... plus the few words before and after the queried phrase.

Also - by "removing the occurance off the page and adding links pointing to the page (using the phrase you an querying) will force Google to use the first page sentence or another close match.
