Default Help! Can't find my site and it's been a year!

Well, it's been a year since I started my own business in web design. Can't find my site listed anywhere for what I want to be indexed for!!! I know the industry is huge and I have alot of competition, but this is rediculous. The site stats show my site being indexed for "free downloads" because of the wallpaper! But none of this has landed me any work. So far, it's all been referrals. I'm losing my patience because I can get any of my clients listed in the top 1-5 results (usually first in the index) but can't do the same for my own business.

Can anyone suggest a resolution? I've tried the "crawler" page, I've optimized my alt-tags and images, I've optimized with keywords (no more than 3 of the same word) and phrases, and still nothing... I've even tried GoogleAdWords (in the very beginning, which cost me an arm and a leg to go nowhere). I've submitted to Inktomi, Looksmart, and eventually cancelled.

To make matters even more complicated (I think) I have uploaded a new site using Post Nuke...

What's the secret??? Is there a company I should go with for SEO and submission? I really wanted to avoid this since I'm still new and don't have the funds for it.

I assume you are talking about the site in your profile?

There is no secret. I can find no links to your site. No links = no ranking.

Google uses the number of links to determine the importance (PR) of a site. As you have no links (at least none that I can find looking on several search engines), Google see you as "unimportant", there fore will not rank you for your keywords.

You need to get a lot of links to your site.

(BTW, when ever I come across a site with music turned on, I am out of there as quick as I get there).

I do have links, just not a vast amount of them.

BTW: the music only lasts a few seconds... it's not a song!

If you have inbound links, they are not indexed by Google which means that your site won't be indexed as well.
Try to get relevant links from directories and you will soon be showing in the ranks.
BTW, at the moment I can see only one link to your site - from WPW :-)

You have a mirror site http://vermillien.com/ - Google seems to have some knowledge of that.

And Netscape seems to know about both of them.

I found 10 links to vermillien.com very easily.
So you have inbound links going to two different web site, isn't that diluting the PR?

I looked at one link, and if this is typical, then it's a big problem.

http://www.just-wallpaper-links.com/...wallpaper.html has a link to http://www.vermillien.com/html_level...downloads.html

- but that URL does not work, so it's not going to help you too much.

And for what it's worth I hate sets with music, that forces my to adjust the speakers. I don't thinks it's good for web design sites, unless you want to limit your target market.
