Default The relationship between results on different search engines

Can anyone clearly define for me which search engines effectively share results? I am sure I saw somewhere that Google serves its results to Yahoo... but when I search for my site on google for certain terms I am No1 on Google but nowhere in Yahoos results.

Ummm no... Google, Yahoo! and Bing are all distinct engines... at least today. Yahoo! is soon to be powered by Bing. But until that happens, the big 3 all have separate indexes.

In the UK the BT Yahoo engine is now powered by Google. Seems Yahoo is losing out everywhere.

The three (Google, yahoo and bing) are independently providing search results on their own. Tried to search some keywords and the results are all different from the three. Bing is the slowest among the three in indexing websites, I submitted some of my websites to Bing and it took several weeks before it got indexed.

Some of the smaller engines do deliver google results. For instance, AOL, CNN {your initial search will be of CNN's story, but you can change to a web search and it gives you google results}, altavista's results look like yahoo to me.

Yahoo does not use the results from google. As I notice, Altavista uses yahoo's results.

Each search engine uses its own algorithm so I don't think there would be any relation among them.

It's worth noting that some search engine show the PPC ads from other engines. Here in the UK, for instance, Google Adwords results are displayed on Ask.com
