Hi everyone!!

I'm interested in knowing how long it takes for the search engines to start picking up sites that i link back to. I've been working at it for a few weeks and I haven't seen any results yet.

Google has never shown much of a backlink sample. Try yahoo linkdomain:

Go for high authority sites for links if you want them to be indexed quick, some quick wins are

a dofollow post on bbc blogs, or telegraph ( a lot of the uk papers have dofollow blogs )
a major forum like nintendos, ea sports, and moneysavingexpert, this one? theres loads

usually within seconds to 1hour.

a great way to see if your links are being crawled is to include a unique phrase or sentence next to the link....then

go setup Google alerts (must do this before you setup the backlink) and add the phrase and/or link. Once you get the alert then you know google visited the page

If you use profile pages then use the username as the unique phrase in the Google alerts..and you should get an alert within the hour.

I thing some time Google taking months, in my webmaster tool or toolbar shows one month back links. But Google says they are updating daily but exporting to their DB to show for the users only in every 2-3 months

I think it will depend on how fast Google crawls the sites where the links are placed. Also, you may not see any initial boost from new backlinks [boost will depend on the quality/relevancy of backlinks]. Some people say that one needs to wait for few weeks/other say to wait for 3-4 months, in order to see any affect of backlinks. I personally do not know how true this info is. However, one thing is sure: if you are expecting benefits from any backlink, then you should know that, only relevant/Good backlinks help a site in improving ranking in SERPs.

It depends on how popular the site is that links to you, if they update frequently then Google probably spiders them on a regular basis, which means the link will be picked up fairly quickly. Google is constantly reassessing backlinks but it may not influence your rankings until you reach a certain mass of links.

If you notice, as a webmaster, i always consider build more quality links than low quality links. Sites that has been crawled is better

when I am performing some link building techniques I somewhat check out the other site first. I try to see if the page receives traffic, if it gets crawled and if it has PR... with that I can determine if Google will get to see my link in it.

I can usually see the effects of new backlinks after two weeks, seems like they show what they are really worth after about three month.

They're getting faster, usually it doesn't take more than five days.
