First, I planned to place links in catalogs and directories. But, now I realize that I can only provide info about my company there. I guess, it doesn't count as a link. Am I right?
If that is so, then where should I get my links from if I don't want to place banners and links of other sites on my web site? Is there a way out? I looked at web sites of our competitors (with high PR) and didn't find any links to other companies. But when I type “link: their URL”, I get several pages of their links..... How do they do it? Where do they hide it? :) |

Incoming links divide roughly into one-way or reciprocal (exchanged) links.
If you can't find any outgoing links, your competitors may not be actively looking for reciprocals, and all their incoming links are one-way. Generally speaking, anything in this format is considered a link: http://www.ctgroup.biz/home.jsp |

Well, as an experiment, I checked in Google if this link actually counts (I typed: link: www.ctgroup.biz), and it didn't appear there. Why is that? May be the technique I use to check for links is wrong?
And, if I don't want to have reciprocal links, where should I go to place one-way links? |

When checking links in Google, I have found "link:www.yourdomain.com" to be very limiting. They appear to only list sites with high PR.
Try doing an exact search in Google on your domain url, that is, enclose it in quotes in the search box: "www.ctgroup.biz" You should see a list of sites that link to you, regardless of their PR. (I doubt if this is fool-proof, but it's a start.) -Anita
