I've been playing a lot with the wonderful wordpress plugins, my website is being redesigned right now and we have decided to move on with wordpress, we will be using it for our index.
On the run I found the following useful tools that I am sure they will help me to boost my traffic

* Tweet This Plugin
This is a tool that allows you to share your posts in twitter, increase the # of followers in twitter and boost your traffic, the more useful content, the better crawled by the search engines you will be

* All in One SEO-Pack

*Wp-Cumulus

I wonder if I can get information about how to use these plug ins. I have a wordpress account but I think that is not enough as I am hosting my blog with word press themselves.

I would appreciate if I can get a step by step guideline of having my own blog hosted on a different server where I can have these plug ins. Please this is an sos message and I hope you guys out there are well versed in it and can help me.

If you upgraded to 2.7.1 installing plugins is as simple as search + install.

1. Go to admin area -> Plugins -> Add new. Here search for the plugin name and in the page that opens with plugin details, there is an Install button. You're done installing.

2. Go back to admin area -> Plugins -> Installed and from the list of Inactive plugins, select the one that you want to activate and click on the Activate link on the right. Additional plugin settings are usually available in the admin area -> Settings -> Plugin_Name. Check to see if you have a new sub-section there.

It's very unfortunate I am not used to the php and the jargons. I have downloaded wordpress 2.7.1 and have extracted the files but don't know what to do with it. I am totally confused but I think it is something which could help me. Is there a way that I can use the plugins when my blog is hosted by wordpress itself. Unfortunately I don't know anything about php. I am only used to html.

Frank, you don't need to know any PHP. The admin area is the back-end where you write the posts, approve comments, install plugins, etc. No matter where you host your blog (WP or your own website) you should have an admin area.

Please read the installation documentation from the WP site to see what you need to do after extracting the files. "Unfortunately" this will involve a database user creation if you host it by yourself

And I think we went completely offtopic with this. I'm stopping here.

Tried to install the All in one SEO pack in wordpress through my admin but I couldn't install it. let me know if it was wronly done.

Is there a way to install this plugin after I have downloaded the zip file onto my hard drive? Any assistance will be much appreciated. I did it from where it says

If you have a plugin in a .zip format, You may install it by uploading it here.

I selected the zip file from my drive but it couldn't install

Once you have the .zip file, all you need to do is go to your plugin section, click add new plugin, browse your hard drive, select the .zip plugin file and save the changes, it will install it immediately.

I am able to download the plugins but it is the installation which is giving me the problem. I browsed my pc for the zip file but when I click on install, I get the message that

Sounds like file access settings; you don't have write permissions. Maybe your host can help you with that.

It looks like some other people are also having problems installing plug ins with wordpress 2.7.1 . I have spoken to one or two people and they have encountered the same proble. Are you using the same version of wordpress? It's amazing these plugins cannot be installed even though I have total administrative control

Thankfully, I have been able to install the plugins. I did it via FTp and it was dead easy. I have one question anyway. In the word press, what is a new page and what is a new post. I am not able to diffrentiate. I have taken them to be the same but I think there must be slight difference.

Can you please come to my assistance in explaining it to me if you have an idea

Since this post already turned into a WP "how to" ...

The posts are your ... blog posts where you express your ideas and people comment upon. They can be grouped in categories, each post belonging to one or more categories. They are in fact your blog!

On the other hand, think of pages as ... website pages. They are more of a static nature (i.e. you can make an About Us and Contact Us; pages that normally do not change too often). Although they can be nested, they lack some of the functionality of the posts.

I would definitely recommend All-in-One SEO pack and Google Sitemap Generator wordpress plugins for SEO benefit.

Apart from that share this/social bookmarking add plugin also helps to increase traffic.

Thank you very much for your advise, I have installed those plugins and will us it. Please can someone recommend the maximum nuber of links which should be in my post and also in my page. I am hosting wordpress on my web site server. Every other advise which will let the search engines pick up the pages and the post quicker would be much appreciated

I have All in One SEO Pack and I notice every 2-3 weeks it says new versions available - If I don't update these plugins, could the site be open to hackers, i.e are these security concerns i fyou don't update your plugins?
