Building Quality Backlinks

I know the threads "How do you build backlinks" have been done over and over on numerous forums but most of them are old so I thought I'd ask around here. Understandably there are hundreds of ways, each with people preaching their method is the best.

Personally for me I've tried the following methods (in no particular order) to build backlinks...

Links from other sites in the same niche - most effective in my opinion.
Article distribution to hundreds of sites - effective but what about the duplicate content, will the links get ignored?
Directory submissions - i've always done this but never seen any real benefit.
Social bookmarking - recently tried this and one of two of the bookmarks came up in the SERPS so I guess it helps. If you get something on the front page it definately generates a lot of visitors and backlinks.
Blog commenting - fairly new, never really tried as it is not widely accepted.
Blog reviews - I once spent $100 on reviews from min pr3 siteswith no real benefit.
Text Link Ads - tried this too, spending $100 with no real benefit.
Forum signatures - have over 2,000 posts on some forums, dunno if this helps

What do you think about web2.0 sites like hubpages, squidoo, etc..? I think these sites are also great resources to get some quality bakclinks and good traffic as well.

All point are important for getting quality links but always keep in mind quality of links most of time i prefer Article submission and is best way of increasing quality links!!! Thanks!!!

All these are important factors but I would rank the linking from related sites more than others.

I suppose Hubpages uses nofollow tag. So it won't give any link juice. Of course, Squidoo is a dofollow one.

No... if your hubscore is about 75 then your links will be do-follow.

I go for high page rank and post on blogs and in forums. Article submissions works well too.

I don't agree with you in this thing, links in the same niche were useful long time ago, blogging, article submission, social networking is what really works currently. I am not saying links with the same niche is not good strategy, I just want to say that it doesn't have the same effect that it had some years ago.

Your all thinks is more use full for build back links, directory submission is also works for build permanent link, it increase your back links and helps to get ranking of keyword in search engines, but link exchange with same niche site is more beneficial for build quality back links.

I going with high PR related sites, social media, articles, blog comments, and forum sigs. Effectiveness in that order or at least that's what I've found.

I got similiar situation with you. But I think all the work you done actually work for you site steadly and quietly. So do not discontinue back linking, your rank will eventually appear. For the long term, it's just best to contribute quality to the web environment and you will be rewarded for it through free target traffic from the search engines.

yes these are a great source of quality backlinks as well as forums, social bookmarkings and blogs.

My niche site has benefited a lot from blog commenting but it takes a lot of time. I also make sure I only comment in do follow blogs

Other than the ones you listed a couple that come to mind are guest posting and press releases. Both have helped me build a decent amount of page rank.

I'd go for social bookmarking, forum and blog posting. It takes a lot of time and efforts, but it works.

This is what I can say about your post:

Link Exchange is good I tried it before in my previous site.
About the article submission I guess the duplicate content will be just deleted
and or sometimes they banned the user from that specific article site thinking
that they just spamming their site.
Blog Commenting I have tried it but I did not see the effect.
Forum signatures is great, it was effective. That is why I'm posting in
different forums. And I got backlinks from all of them.

i think the most effective ways to build quality backlinks is building blogs and submitting articles which related to your sites.

According to me hubpages, squidoo are the best way to get quality backlinks but if you will copy paste some other's content then both site will remove your link so b careful.

Getting involved in strong forums/websites/blogs that already rank high in the SERPS are a great place to get quality backlinks. I also do article submissions which have helped.

To test, create a Google alert using specific text (i.e. your website, your name, a phrase) that is always involved in your links. When these are found, Google will let you know. Then use a different phrase for different methods and gauge the results.

One of my favorite (really helpful for real estate related websites) is ActiveRain. This is a really BIG networking site for real estate and mortgage pros and I have had great success with mortgage websites getting quality backlinks that really boosted the rankings!

to clarify....
"getting involved" means just that! The more your website is linked from a website, the more the overall link is considered valuable. So getting involved not only helps others when you share your knowledge and understanding, but also helps you in the linking dept!

I don't do many quick "hit and run" links... lol

According to the numbers, they are fantastic and can't be ignored. I am in the process of a new look for my website (boring right now) and in doing that I will be incorporating newsletters, autoresponders and finally begin press releases. Amazing how time consuming so many of these factors can be! LOL

The only time dup content becomes an issue for YOU is if you submit an article to the directories that is exactly like one on your site. Sure, you can post it first on your site, but that does not guarantee that Google will consider your posting of it to be the "source" or "authority". So the best way to prevent that is to take an article you have on your site and re-write it before posting to the article directories. This way you get the benefit of incoming links without risking the dup content issue. The ones that syndicate your article may deal with dup content, but who cares?

So only submit different versions of articles already posted on your website and you will be just fine.

I am no SEO expert but I learned onsite SEO through forums and trial and error and I am doing the same with off site SEO.

It seems to me that everyone has an opinion as to what "works" best but I think what people think works best may simply be because of the specific circumstances. (i.e.: articles work the best but that may be because you had an article picked up by a number of PR4 sites and Google liked the sites as authorities in that category).

I think that you need to do all the various methods and none of them to excess. I think SEOBook has that top 101 ways to get links. None of them work on their own, but they all work to some degree. Pick 5 or 6 methods and focus on them. We have 6 methods that we use for back links and it stops us from getting too many articles or too many directory submissions all at one time.

Plus, you now are spread out and there is more of a likelihood of you being seen and being picked up and linked to without your efforts or knowledge.

I guess what I am saying, there is NO one solution to getting links.

Google seems to be homing in on more and more ways it considers "unnatural" linkbuilding, so its getting tougher all the time.

Explore every option and stay away from mass directory, article and blog comment submissions. Keep reciprocal links to a minimum.

Social bookmarking sites like digg can increase your ranking rapidly. stay active on digg you may get enough traffic.

If you want to get really good backlinks then go for hubpages and would recommend you to focus on two main sites which are Squidoo and Hubpages. Build a hub or lens that is worth reading.
