Default Starting over with SEO

Hi All

I'm just starting to get back into looking at some SEO techniques for a current website.

I know that the search-engine ground rules are constantly changing and I'm pretty sure all my old techniques are now obsolete. So I need to start over, and would like some friendly advice on where to begin.

In case you care to look, the website is http://www.digex.com.au. The main focus is the OAM2 product (On-line Appointment Manager), so primarily I would aim to drive traffic to the http://www.digex.com.au/oam.php page.

We do currently run an AdWords campaign, and at present our target audience is primarily Australia.

So there's a few things I'd like to know...

* Can anyone suggest a good site with SEO tutorials? I know I could just search Google, but a personal recommendation is always much better.

* How long does it usually take for SEO improvements to result in increased traffic numbers (and quality)?

* Given that I do have a technical background I think I can handle doing the SEO myself, but how many hours of work do you think it would take for a site of this size? Should I just bite the bullet and pay someone to do it for me?

Any other recommendations, suggestions or useful pointers to help get me going again would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Jon

I have learned a lot from signing up for the newsletter and daily tips from these guys.

Onsite search engine workshops taught by industry leaders Robin Nobles and John Alexander

Down at the bottom of the page....within a very short time, you will get up to speed.
If you go to their sitemap, closer to the bottom, there are links to a ton of articles as well.

I really enjoy this forum and also the SEO Guy has a great tutorial. I often visit with SEO Chat too. There are tons of Ezine articles and also some good Affiliate Summit videos on Youtube that teach some really professional techniques for search engine optimization.

Doing SEO on your own will take time and need expertise,if you are wrong then you will loose your business and you will need to restore your work and start from the scratch. When you are hiring an expert (individual or a company) you have a dedicated time for all the methods to follow. An expert internet marketing service provider of a repute can reap you benefits in your business.

Exclamation Re: Starting over with SEO

I don't altogether agree that "the rules have changed." Google does keep refining them and it's becoming more risky to ignore or break them.
But the primary requirement is no different than it's been from the beginning:
1. Good content -- relevant, well written, logically presented, information and advice that searchers are looking for and, it's to be hoped, are expecting.
2. A site that at least compares with other well positioned ones and, as far as possible, is better worded, designed, and able to obtain a "Wow!" from people who visit it.

No easy task, but it never has been.
