Ranking.com vs. Alexa

I have spent some time (not much) looking at the results from both Alexa.com and Ranking.com; to measure web site traffic of my site and my competition. It seems to me, at least with our website; traffic valuations seem to be much different (Alexa 552,000 and Ranking.com 75,000). I am just wondering if anyone knows of a website that has a bit more reliability in measuring web traffic or which of the two is more trustworthy.

I have played around with the Alexa tool bar and it seems to be temperamental. It will report traffic information on websites that are frequently visited, but not on smaller sites.

Ignore Alexa results.
