Default Top terms???!!!

Hi All,
Is anyone aware of a tool/web site that tells you for your particular industry what the most common keywords people search on to find what they are looking for.

for example in my instance:
Do people search for property investments more than discounted property??

Maybe not the best example, but I hope you get the drift?!

Thanks in advance

Try Wordtracker and/or Overture for a guide.

The Overture Term Suggestion tool is here.

Actually you can use the adwords tool before you actually start paying for clicks.

Yes Google do provide the facility but it doesn't tell you which kw's are used most often. Here are the links.

Hi Wesley

I often use AdWords to tell me which terms are used most often, e.g "Training in Excel", "Excel Training" or "Micrsoft Excel Training". I do this by bidding the min, setting the daily rate to some very high figure (that is never reached), say $600.00 and check-out the impressions 24 hours later.

I have found Overtures to be quite inaccurate for Google. mainly because Overture is not as good a search engine as Google so people tend to use single kewyords, where on Google they use a string of keywords.

Be careful you don't fall into the trap of omtimizing based soley on the # of searches done on any term. I have often found that the lesser searched term is the money winner, even though the traffic is less. For example, "financial sharware" is used more often than "financial Software" by seachers, BUT Financial Software brings in the $$ while "financial sharware" does little except drive up the bandwidth.

Please be aware that suggestion tools provided by Search engines that give you quantities of keyword searches are based only on that one search engine and may not be relevant to your entire campaign.

The best bet is to choose the best keywords for Google and optimize based on those, chances are that if do well within google you should do well in other SEs as well.

Default Keyword Mining Tips

Wesley,

Good Keywords is definitely a good program that's quite easy to use.

I'd start by making a list (spreadsheet) of single and double words related to your topic.

Look for spinoff search phrases from those, i.e. words/phrases that didn't occur to you right off.

Overture is excellent for plugging in what you've listed and checking popularity of the term and it's related searches. There's usually 3 or 4 per search term that you missed the first time around.

Low volume search words/phrases of 3-5 words can actually be much better sources of qualified visitors because you've matched to a more detailed search term.

Then plug them in on Google and check the keyword lists of the sites that rank in the top 10 for your favorite searches. (View Source in your browser)

Chances are they've already researched a lot of terms. Review sites for other related topic ideas for your own site as quality content will bring quality traffic.

And of course, don't forget to do your link exchanges with related sites to increase your own site's overall ranking.

Cheers!

Greg

P.S. - Don't forget that your target market has a better grasp of the English language than those of us on this side of the pond. Over here it's all "real estate investing" and "foreclosure".

I always use a combination of three things: First of all, I use the Overture keyword suggestion tool, which is very helpful. After that, I use the free software from Good Keywords and decide which keywords are useful. After that, I search for these keywords on big search engines like Google and use WordTracker to determine what keywords have the best KEI figure. The higher this figure, the more popular your keyword is and the less competition it has. Works great for me! I even offer to do it for our customers this way. The only problem is that our web site can't use any links to other comparing sites, as we do not want to drive our prospects to the competition. By the way javad: I am sure that any of these tools can help you as well. If they don't, I guess your industry is not used to order online, or your having a wrong impression of the keywords people are using in your industry.
